Hes not good. So stop your bitching

At one time Jimenez was ranked in the top 30 detroit tiger prospects but has since slid out of the top 30 all together.

Career minor leaguer.

Im not bitching about who they gave up. Im bitching about the player they traded for.

It’s not a bad trade as far as value goes. But losing Olson and gaining Paddock is not a win win. Our pitching staff just got worse today. But it is what it is. Losing Olson definitely required some type of move.

He’s a 5th starter type. Can eat innings for a team. Expect 5 or 6 innings and 3 or 4 runs. Possibly a long reliever too.

Just saw Olson is done… Oh shit. Terrible news

I doubt we could, or would, even try to replace Olson at this point. To get someone of his caliber would just cost too much.

This one is gonna hurt.

I whole heatedly agree! I’ve been worried about losing him for awhile and now the Detroit is actually good as a whole I worry even more that people are going to pay attention. He’s made some pretty pedestrian pitchers look really good even when the team was shit

Huh have you sceen the bp this year?

Yeah, they’ve had their struggles. The better question is, have you seen the BP the last few yrs? Any stars? Yet how many BP games did we win to make it to the playoffs last yr? Dudes done a great job with a lot of cast offs and zero stars other than Skubs, the what 8th round pick that everybody gave up on because he was oft injured and went to Seattle St or something like that

Actually he’s shown promise as a short reliever. Which is where he really belongs if you ask me. But he’s a rental for the season. Maybe we retain him but there’s no guarantee.

We definitely need more than this but this trade was low cost. I don’t understand why we wanted Dobnak in the trade unless we think he could help down the road. Personally I get he’s a triple A ball player but he’s also 30 and hasn’t shown much. Maybe we think we can develop him?

The trade was low cost but when you give up youth you need to get more than a half season rental and a 30 year old triple A player.

I wouldn’t say it’s a bad trade but it’s definitely nothing to get excited about either.

OR…
Let’s let Melton cook!

2 MLB Bodies for a guy who will never ever play for Detroit behind Dingler Rogers Briceño Liranzo.

Sounds fine.

Wasn’t aware of his background, fun story and see if Tigers can help him right the ship.

# USPBL alum Randy Dobnak on trade to Tigers: 'Fresh start might do me wonders
full article at link.

Dobnak, not long ago, was one of baseball’s feel-good stories, an undrafted free agent out of Alderson Broaddus University, a small Division II college in West Virginia who signed with the USPBL in 2017. The USPBL then was in just its second season and didn’t have much of a reputation (good or bad), but Dobnak took a shot, put on the Utica Unicorns uniform, and did enough to catch the attention of the Twins organization.

He signed with the Twins in 2017 for a $500 bonus (he once made more than twice that one New Year’s Eve, driving an Uber in New York City), and in 2019, he got the call-up, becoming the first USPBL alum to pitch in the major leagues.

His brief time at Jimmy John’s Field made Thursday’s phone call a little more special.

“It’s almost like a homecoming, I guess you could say,” Dobnak said Monday night, before Tuesday’s start of the series between his old team (the Saints) and his new team (the Mud Hens). “I started my professional career with an hour northeast of there (Comerica Park). It’s really exciting to be back home. I got a lot of calls and texts, people I haven’t talked to in a while, and people who were just fans of the Unicorns, saying, ‘Hey, welcome home.’”

Dobnak made nine appearances (five starts) in his first season in the major leagues, then made 10 starts for the Twins in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, going 6-4 with a 4.05 ERA. That earned him a five-year extension worth nearly $10 million, a deal signed on the eve of the 2021 season.

That’s about when things started going south. In July 2021, Dobnak suffered a strained finger injury that was so rare in baseball, the Twins were at a loss how to treat it. He returned in September of that season, but wasn’t himself. And the next spring, he experienced more finger discomfort, drawing another stint on the 60-day injured list.

Dobnak didn’t pitch at all for the Twins in 2022 or 2023, before making five appearances in 2024. He made one appearance this season, in March, before being demoted. He hasn’t been called up since, and has struggled at Triple A. His ERAs over the last four seasons at Triple A: 5.40, 5.84, 5.06 and, this year, 7.57. This season, he’s been working his way back from an early-year ankle injury.

Dobnak said he doesn’t feel like his stuff is any worse than when he was thriving. It’s just not as effective. He’s excited to join a Tigers organization that, under president of baseball operations Scott Harris, has developed a reputation of helping veteran pitchers rediscover their old form.

“This organization, they’ve got a lot of history,” said Dobnak, who every night checks the Twins’ box score, but also has made it a habit of checking the Tigers’, too. "This has been kind of a rough year, and I’m looking forward to seeing what their thoughts are.

Theathletic grade on the trade.

July 28: Tigers secure a fifth starter in acquiring Chris Paddack from Twins

Grade excerpt: “I see no reason to love or hate this move for either side. The Tigers get a guy who will cover innings and give them another option down the stretch. Would they feel great giving Paddack the ball in the postseason? Not great, no, but he’s been there before. And that’s a nervous feeling that, in theory, the Tigers will address with a couple more trades this week. The Twins, meanwhile, get an undersized switch-hitting catching prospect who has a clearer path toward big league playing time in Minnesota than he did in the Tigers organization.”

Tigers: B
Twins: B+
