I am not trying to be a wet blanket. And I have clowned writers and mock drafts for years. But this guy spends some time in his preface to the mock draft explaining that he is toying around with a concept. In this mock he is exploring the idea that if the Bears draft someone other than Caleb Williams, that means Washington is sitting on a lottery ticket. He says that Washington would receive “significant compensation” that makes it worth their while, but they also could stay high enough to land a QB. That’s how they end up with Drake Maye.
That’s certainly a strong possibility. BUT…there is also a slight chance that Washington ends up getting a king’s sum while still having a pick high enough to get the QB they thought they were going draft anyways (because they probably assume Caleb will be gone). Its a thought excercise. They aren’t moving down for fun. They are moving down in this mock because the compensation to do so is astronomical. So imagine if Washington plans to draft Drake Maye. Then an offer comes in that allows them to still draft Drake Maye while acquiring premium draft capital and Patrick Surtain.
Here is another snippet from where he prefaces the mock:
Collins’ tumble down the draft board eclipses that of Laremy Tunsil, considering the horrific circumstances that caused it. The LSU tackle projected by many as a top-10 pick was named in a murder investigation two days before the draft. He was never a suspect, but he wasn’t cleared by police until after the draft
