That’s a lot of resources for one position.
It’s probably the only all-in move I’d be in favor of. And a pipe dream.
Crosby was a fourth round pick and Holmes is probably (and rightfully so) confident they can find another impact Edge in the coming drafts without giving up multiple high picks to do it.
But just the thought of Hutch and Maxx crashing down every play is just too good to not at least dream about.
There are not many players that Holmes would deviate from his current strategy. Crosby is one of them though, IMO. That doesn’t mean they would pursue him at all costs, but I think they would at least be in the mix.
He even openly stated it must be awesome to play for Campbell and he is from the area.
Remember this conversation from Sewell at the Pro Bowl
Crosby: “I was going to say, Dan Campbell seems like the man.”
Sewell: “He’s a great guy, bro.”
[editing cut]
Sewell: “Like, he’s been through it, so you know what I mean?”
Crosby: “You can respect that.”
[editing cut]
Crosby: “I grew up in Michigan, so…”
Sewell: “Oh, for real?”
Crosby: “And I went to Eastern Michigan, so I grew up a Lions fan.”
If the Raiders even entertain dealing him, I would bet we are #1 on his wish list as well.
Having two DPOY type players at edge would be a game changer. I’d give up both our 1st/2nd in 2025 for him. There also a better than decent chance we will be getting a comp 3rd as I believe Glenn will be hired away this offseason.
Would be an all in move I could get behind. Just wonder if we still are able to extend Hutch and resign Alim and Kirby? Also hearing next years draft is a down one as well so might be a good year to trade some picks.
I’m probably in the extreme minority here but I’d rather just use our resources to keep as much of the gang together for as long as possible. While they are at the peak of their powers I mean.
I dont disagree and it would be the path i take unless the deal is right. Which i need to understand better what exactly are we on the hook for with crosby if we traded for him? I see he is under contract till 2026, base values around 20M. Can we make that work and resign our guys? Through restructures i think we could but it obviously makes things more difficult
IMO, this is the only thing we have going for us…but that is a big thing.
Home town discount?
I agree w/this too.
I am among the bottom of our group, when it comes to supporting “all in” moves. My #1 question, and I think that it’s one that Brad would ask too → “Can I still build the dynasty if we make this move?”
Brad won’t sacrifice the dynasty he’s building…buuut…if we got Maxx, it would make us almost unbeatable. The ultimate “all-in” move. 3 SBs in a row-type shit! HAHAHAHHAAHAHAAHAAAAA!
I don’t think we can keep all of our guys as is. But if we are going to be able to keep Hutch and Alim and Jamo and Branch and Kerby, etc. we need to circle the wagons
was going to post these same exact sentiments.
I think having two of the top 5 edge players on the same defense might make letting a couple guys walk worthwhile. Take the comp value from them and keep drafting well to backfill guys we lose. Crosby in 2024 could put us over the top, ie, a Lombardi.
But I trust Brad and believe his thinking is more in line with yours than the groupthink here. On the other hand, Brad does have a pattern of doubling down make up for his misses, could he do the same for the Davenport miss before the deadline?
Another thing we’re not talking about it would the Raiders make Maxx available. He’s a cornerstone piece for them and unless they’re commited to sucking for high draft picks, I can’t see them trading Crosby.
He lobbied so hard for Pierce to stay. Until he gets fired, I don’t see Crosby going anywhere. The Raiders are under no pressure to trade him just to get something for him since his contract runs until 2026.
Keep in mind that it’s probably letting two high end starter go (or one star) AND forgoing two first rounders on cheap team controlled deals.
Especially since they’re going to be No. 32 of each round after the trade.
No, but it should be.
Also, while Crosby obviously has all the hometown ties and has talked about wanting to play here…
If Cleveland keeps going down the drain, we should at least ask about Myles Garrett.
Draft and develop is our organizational strength. Stick to it.
Sign him for cheap - include him in the three way trade with the Vikings to get Crosby!
With Crosby only being 27 I would think the Raiders see him as part of whatever kind of rebuild they have coming up.
I think IF we make a trade (which as we should know by now is unlikely), what we’d be realistically looking at is someone who is undervalued, whether it be because the team around him is terrible, they’re using him wrong, he still has room for development (like Redick when he left Arizona), or yeah, because he’s injured.
Where does that leave us?
Zaven Collins at 6’5, 260 is interesting. He never worked out as a LB and Arizona has only recently moved him to edge. Does he have a ceiling there due to his inexperience? Maybe. He recently signed a 2-year extension but it’s pretty cheap, and they can get out of it.
Zach Sieler is a Michigan boy (Ferris State) who had 10 sacks last year for the Dolphins. He’s really more of a 3-4 end type (6’6, 300), but on draft day he was 288, which would have made him the same size as Darius Robinson, who we know we were in for. He’s older (29) and not as cheap (~$10M/year), but if they want to move on they’d be better off doing it before his cap hit rises at the start of the 2025 year.
Cam Jordan? He’s expensive salary-wise but shouldn’t cost much in trade capital due to his age (35). And Dan and AG know him really well. If he’s chasing rings and the Saints aren’t gonna get him one, maybe we can make something work out?
It would be pretty hilarious to ask about Travon Walker. I doubt Jax is ready to give up on him, but they have to decide whether to pay him or not soon. He’d looked fantastic opposite Hutch.
