Byron Murphy back to Minnesota

3 Year deal, $66 million.

Fine player but that is a lot of coin for a good but not great CB.

I was expecting 2/3 of that cost. Probably a top 25 CB, definitely not top 15.

Money has been dumb this cycle. It was trending that way but the Myles deal was a needle mover and from then on everything suddenly had a premium.

Man, that DJ Reed contract is looking so good.

That and the Odeyingbo contracts are the biggest values to me. Contracts you might have seen the past couple of years, rather than this new future we find ourselves in.

I won’t pretend like I’m an expert on the player, but 16mil AAV for a pass rusher with 16.5 career sacks, with a season high of 8, does not strike me as a major value. If he hits and has 8-10 sacks this year opposite Sweat, they got what they paid for.

He’s kinda like Jamo, got hurt (achilles tear) during his pre-draft process and is just starting to round into form. He played a few snaps towards the end of his rookie year, then struggled through his real rookie year. Things started to click for him that 3rd year. This past year played a lot more snaps inside to help cover for Buckner’s early injury issues and on passing downs. And he still led them in pressures. He is admittedly something of a projection, but he’s also absolutely on an upward trajectory.

I wanted Murphy here but very happy with Reed. That’s a big number for Murphy. Hope it doesn’t work out lol.
