There is so much more to being a successful QB in the NFL that being able to throw the rock.
After watching this game for 50 years I would say that the great ones master the boring everyday throws. Like they hit on like 90% of those. Those are the chain movers and keep the offense on the field. CW is horrific at that right now.
You watch Mahomes, and while he is celebrated for the “off schedule” plays he makes. His strength is moving the chains. He keeps his team in play even though they lack the play makers they have had in the past. Tom Brady was maybe the best ever at that. Peyton Manning was a master of that.
CW has a long way to go to become a really good QB. And some of it is not his fault. Does he have a good OC and QB coach helping him? Is the offense built around his strengths? I feel like once a QB masters that game then the OC and such are not as important. But getting those basics and understanding how it all works has to be in place.
I hated him the second the Bears drafted him, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think he’ll be good. Hopefully he’ll never be a winner, but I’m pretty sure he’ll be good.
I don’t know if he’ll be the best, but I don’t think he’s nearly as bad as people are trying to make him out to be. He’s obviously talented and obviously a rookie.
I love how Bears fan think he’s arrived because of his game against Detroit. lol you think they would have learned from the games Tribusky and Fields used to have against us. Fields will be a good QB but he doesn’t have the toughness to be an elite one. He’s acts like a little spoiled kid.
They thought that because of his game against the Jaguars. And the game against the Panthers. And the game against the Packers. And the game against the Vikings. Now against the Lions, but only after most of the starting defense was on the sidelines.
Basically, Bears fans are just desperate for Caleb to have arrived, even though there is more ample evidence that says otherwise.
That’s what I was thinking with the whole ‘Above my pay grade’ comment
Bruh you were the first overall pick and making way more money than the coach
Instead of waving your hands over your head like a menopausal woman having a hot flash for 10 seconds, call a time out and manage the clock yourself. You see how much time there is as well as anyone else
The thing that I find odd that nobody is discussing is this;
Caleb’s getting the playcalls from the OC, not the HC. The HC is the defensive play-caller.
Often a Head Coach takes a bullet for his coordinators. I’m not saying that’s what Eberflus did here, but I sure as heck wouldn’t promote the OC to interim HC like they did.
