Comparatively Montero is off to a better start of his career than Mize was, and as much as I like him, I don’t think he is coming back regardless if we don’t bring Scooby back
I think the tigers sold high on both mize and skubal. Especially Mize. I had high hopes for him but at almost 30 this is who he is. A solid starter with good stuff that will unlikely stay healthy enough to make a big impact in a franchise.

Over the past several years Mize has consistently had strong first halves and terrible second halves of seasons. I think he runs out of gas around mid-August just about every year, and is highly unpredictable past that point each season. Any return we got for him is gravy.

I personally think Mize took it up a notch this season and clearly established himself as a solid #2 in our rotation. Unfortunately he has what appears to be a lingering issue with that groin injury. I believe I heard or read that he was shortening up his pitching stride in order to keep from aggravating his groin. That could certainly mess up his mechanics and velocity.
He’s really between a rock and a hard place going into free agency right now.
Either keep stretching out his stride to maintain his velocity / mechanics and risk further injury or shorten up his stride to protect against injury and risk losing velocity and control.
