Can Franklin finally beat OSU?
How bad is Oregon going to beat UM?
Indiana keep it up…
From theathletic on the OSU/PSU matchup
1. No. 4 Ohio State (6-1) at No. 3 Penn State (7-0), Noon, Fubo, Fox
The fourth top-five showdown of 2024, with all the requisite pomp and circumstance. ESPN’s “College GameDay” and Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff” are both setting up shop in Happy Valley, and our own Bruce Feldman and Ralph Russo talked to a slew of coaches who have faced both teams. Ohio State, which had to grind past Nebraska last week, is looking to avoid a second loss, and Ryan Day has had his troubles against top-five opponents (2-6 in his career). Yet so much of the pressure is still on Penn State in this one. Can James Franklin overcome his big-game struggles and improve his 1-9 record against Ohio State? Will Drew Allar be healthy enough to start at quarterback? Penn State hasn’t beaten the Buckeyes since 2016 and hasn’t been the higher-ranked team since 2017, but a win at home Saturday could change the narrative for these Nittany Lions.
Lots of interesting games, not a lot of marquee matchups but teams like Miami vs. Duke, Iowa State vs. Texas Tech, Indiana at Michigan State, and Texas A&M at South Carolina should be on upset alert.
Man I wish Josh Simmons hadn’t gotten hurt so we could see him square off against Abdul Carter. Those are two borderline top 10 picks in my book.
It’s also a monster game for Allar’s draft stock. He’s got the tools but he chokes in big games. A chance to change that narrative.
Nick Singleton’s stock has rehabbed this year as well, but of course this is his biggest test too.
I hope A&M starts Marcel Reed so we can see that South Carolina DL chasing him all day.
Josaiah Stewart vs the Oregon OTs Conerly and Cornelius should be fun.
Elko might have left, but that Duke defense is still legit. Will be fun to see Cam Ward, Restrepo, Martinez, etc… try and solve it.
Pat Bryant and Justin Walley should get some reps against each other (if Bryant passes through the concussion protocol). Both those guys will be drafted.
Jailin Walker vs. Jack Velling should be a good matchup. Walker has been a stud and is a freak athlete for a LB, but his size (< 220 pounds) probably limits his draft ceiling. Velling on the other hand has been fine, but his draft ceiling is sky high. I don’t think he’ll catch Loveland or Warren but he could easily be TE3.
Man I wish Abdul Carter was going against Simmons instead of abusing an admittedly-talented guard on the outside. @HSVLion is Jackson really the best option? No stud OTs waiting in the wings?
The problem is the backup, Zen Michalski, also got hurt at the end of the Nebraska game. Luke Montgomery was supposed to be a tackle but now he’s playing guard in college.
But Justin Frye has been absolutely TERRIBLE on the recruiting trail.
Ah didn’t know the backup got hurt too. Really sucks that Simmons got hurt he was playing out of his mind. Easily on the way to OT1 in this class imo. Might get there anyway given the dearth of other options.
