Changes to ESPN analytics

Interesting read for those that enjoy following these types of things. Two notes that apply to the Lions.

If I’m understanding it correctly that they are acknowledging their old system underrated the effect of power in collapsing the pocket and affecting the passer while awarding too much credit to the sort of speed rushes where the pass rusher might get close to the play but is really just being guided harmlessly around the arc and past the QBs

Two Lions specific notes:

1:) Aidan benefited from this change and his ranking actually moved up.

2:). Alim was number 1 amongst qualifying DTs in terms of the effectiveness of his bull rush.

Unfortunately this change is going to make year over comparisons a bitch.

I’d just like to see our DL make opposing OLs their bitch for a change. It’s been too long.

Still it’s a necessary move, I’m surprised ESPN actually did it

Is everyone else going to make the change or are we going to have different readings depending on who publishes it.

Sewell had a down year last year and his Run blocking was always his strongest suit. However…. Not in top 10 for PRWR.

PFF had Penei as the number 1 OL last year :man_shrugging:
