Charles McDonald walks back F grade on Lions 2023 draft | The Exempt List -

My guess is that saturation leads to the quest for differentiation. There is now almost too much “professional” draft content so the old way of doing it simply isn’t enough to drive engagement to a wide enough spectrum.

Agreed. I just think there’s actually an unmet need here for real analysis. Instead of telling me why YOU would’ve picked Bijan over Gibbs, or Jalen Carter over Gibbs, or anybody else over Gibbs, help me understand why the Lions see Gibbs as the better pick for what they’re doing. It seems pretty obvious now!

The funny part about it is most people grading the draft really liked the actual players we got. They just couldn’t get past the group thinking in terms of where players should be selected.

Fans on this very board do the same thing :person_shrugging:

The difference being we aren’t being paid to research and discuss these players and teams.

Yeah that’s the convenient way out…sure. I have that same understanding, which is why I do t go apeshit if a player I like is not picked

There are a lot more Charles McDonalds out there. Just too embarrassed or egotistical to own up.

Its why i read there points of view an then take another look myself an toss there’s in most cases away.

If some of big name mockers say Lions for example need a OG people like this guy will give use 3 OGs even if we have 3 all pro ones. I have seen them say we needed a player they pick in draft because we lack depth an we have like 6 . So he can wear my F for his grading ideas.

Which I really don’t understand why. It’s not a big deal to admit you’re wrong projecting college kids into the pro’s. Just admit it and move on.

Great teams are built with great players.
Not positions.

This is accurate. Without getting political, it’s the same issue in a lot of areas. You have to say something to engage an audience. It’s no secret that some(most) pundits say things to get a reaction. Whether they really believe it or whether they are filling a perceived gap in the market of ideas is the real question.
All told, there are lots of ways to build a winning team and there are enough variables in play that we are far from an exact science. What our guys are doing seems to be working and that’s all that we can ask for.

As we watch FA develop now, made me think of this from Marshall:

You know, Brad Holmes, he’s getting his due now. Everyone’s glazing him up, but, like, deservedly so. Like, he has stacked three straight drafts, and this is how you build sustained success, because, ultimately, you know, the teams that don’t draft well are gonna be the ones that have to be the most active in free agency. Your cap situation gets upside down, and you see it compound over years.
