What new wrinkles do you want to see?
I am 99% sure that we already run that play. I think we also have a version where we run everything the same way…but as a playaction pass.
I feel good about us continuing to do things the way we do things. Dan was ultimately the mastermind of how we run our offense. He wanted to be sure we were “multiple” in what we did, so we could adapt our attack week-to-week. One thing I think Osama Bin Johnson did really well was explaining to the players exactly WHY they were being asked to perform a particular task on a play. There is a difference between running a route to “get open” vs running a route to clear out for another target…or to give Jared a cleaner read of the defense. Listening to the players, even guys like Jamo fully understood where his spot was in the progression and what his route was supposed to accomplish.
That could be. Our run game is so diverse. It’s hard to keep track of.
In general I want more of Jamo moving against the grain and Gibbs deployed the other way. The horizontal stress on the defense in that scenario is obscene.
This is good.
He never should have joined Al-CHIduh.
On the rare times we use a fullback I’d like to see this play brought back. It’s never expected anymore and it hits so quickly the defense is often slow to react.
Who would you align at FB? We’ve handed it to Monty with limited pre snap depth a few times with limited success. I think it really messes with TB to take away too much of their backfield depth. Maybe Vaki given his positional breadth would better be able to adjust. Or Sam?
@Bols has the answer.
Along these lines …
Saint not only doesn’t eff up, he sets the standard.
My band name for the WR room is St. and The Sinners.
I’ve seen us drop Sam to H-Back if you will and I’m good with that if you are really using him in the passing game where you can throw two guys out of the backfield in different directions. He did it at Iowa too if I’m not mistaken. So he’d be a great candidate. Vaki, certainly would be more of a guy you could put there and get him some snaps, without putting Monte in that role, which I’m sure he could do, but do you want him taking on 3t’s in the hole? Not really.
So for safety sake, I’m more leaning on Vaki, Zylstra or another backup TE. No need in this offense to waste a roster spot on a true FB. Hey, I’m old school and would love to see a 4th quarter with us up 17, Jahmyr on the pine, with Monte and Vaki draining the clock behind a Sledge v2. But for what we are built to do, you use what you have as depth at RB and TE to sort out those handful of plays you want to run 2 back.
We all want more pony sets.
100% vaki, i actually want him in that role and have vocalized that since he was drafted lol. Former safety at fullback, yes please
Middle screen inside the 10 on 4th and goal
I know what wrinkles @Bols wants to see more of.
I actually think he’d be the most successful running at that depth too. His brain isn’t as programmed to the full depth sight lines and as a former high end HS slot WR he’s likely quite elusive in tight spaces. Seemed that way in the preseason and in his last year of college as well.
Vaki and laporta were my first thoughts. I’d also bet Rodrigo could pull it off. I’ve seen those plays go for huge yards at critical times simply because nobody runs that play.
Actual middle screen or shovel pass?
