Law will have a million options, but calling him “The” because of Kendrick Lamar probably won’t stick. Who gets the nickname “The?” I guess Ohio State University, but it’s too hard to search, no good for the brand.

I’ve already heard:

Law & Order (with Goff)
“Trafalgar” Law which is an anime thing
“Broken” Law which might be my favorite
“Lawdogged” which is also funny.
And the scariest, most chill-inducing name anyone can think up: the “Lawyer”

I’ve also seen both JAIL and JAIL’D as nicknames for our WR unit (Jamo, Amon-ra, Isaac, Law, Dortch)

I’ve already heard Mount HutchMoore being thrown around… Not sure I like it

Big Drick!

Gotta toss out anything to do with “the law” by default. Sorry, just weak. Unless it’s playing “I Fought the Law” when he makes a big play.

Would rather call him The Lawn in reference to him running all over the grass on game day.

Offenser Kendrick?

Hey you also have to be realistic about these things. There’s no way Law isn’t factored in to it, so it’s best to just admit that and start working with it now. Personally it’s 1000% better than just using a guy’s initials, or his first-initial and first-syllable of his last name (A-Rod, T-Mac, etc…). Those are the lazy af ones to me

Au contraire, amigo.

Constraints should be used fuel creativity, not limit it. That’s art 101.

Agree on the initials thing though.

I personally feel The Lawn is much better than anything to do with the law, which will be hackneyed at best. So, need to go second order with this, not a pun on “law” be something that breaks out of the box and actually describes what he does on the field, again “lawn” works in that way, like if he “houses” it, you could say he went “lawn”.

I wouldn’t expect this to become any kind of household expression, just as I don’t expect Kendrick to become a superstar. He will probaby have a nice niche career and I think that’s terrific.

But I’m not here to teach a creative writing class. Have at it, fellas.

Fixed it

All of this would be true if you WERE teaching a creative writing class, but you are operating in the court of public opinion and social media, in which the lowest common denominator wins. I think we’ll be LUCKY if Law is used as part of his nickname. K.L. is much more likely.

Quite honesty, I would not consider myself or anyone else lucky if “law” were used in his nickname.

I’m trying to think of what MCDC will use when referring to him.

I think it’s pretty likely to be K-Law.

Drickhead?

I could see that one too, which is just a bastardization of the first-initial, first-syllable thing, so I wouldn’t like it either. But overall Law is pervasive enough throughout the language that you should be able to come up with something good out of it. Fighting/breaking/jail/arrest… there’s some good stuff to work with in there, imo.

There is, and there is the concept of verisimilitude, life imitating art etc.

The most appropriate tie-in for Kendrick would be in breaking traffic laws, i.e. speeding etc. I got nothing off the top of my head for that.

Well the kids today say “Broken” in the same vein people from earlier generations called something so good it was “stupid,” so a Broken Law in that context works. Or maybe it was the kids five years ago that said broken, things change fast.

And like I said “Lawyers” are fearsome things, there are worse things to be named after. Personally I’d rather face a team called the “Sharks” or “Lions” than “Laywers.”

You could also do what you did with Lawn and shift it a little, like “Lawdogged” comes from rawdog, or maybe you could so something with claw or jaws or something like that.

KLaw?

Almost guaranteed to be it, IMO.

But if it turns out to be something like Tripod, we can assume there’s something entirely else about him that stands out among teammates.

As long as it’s pronounced “Claw” and not “K-Law” I’m OK with it.
