Colby Sorsdal

I said this in another thread. The NFL is going to have to either suspend him or coaches will have to drag him off the field for Taylor not to play. Guy is a warrior. Would I like to see them try without him and get the win and get him an extra 10 days? Of course. But I don’t think they have a lot of options to stop him from getting off the field. That’s just not Dan’s MO, or Taylors.

Hell the guy wanted to suit up Monday and play the game.

Side note as we all know he has a daughter. Feel bad for the guy that tries to da… well you get the idea.

We had some years when we were getting the ball out quickly. But that was under Morningwheg and Mooch. Mike Martz offense holds the ball longer than average, not shorter. Backus was turning in solid performances with Mike Martz and Scott Linehan as the OC’s.

I think Dan is the type of guy that would play even if its a terrible idea. That’s why as a coach he tries his best to protect players like him from themselves. He sides on healing and recovery over showing how tough you are to suit up for a game. He preaches that its a long season and there is no reason to compromise your availability in week 15 by doing something stupid in week 3. Trust your backup to perform and trust the coaching staff to put together a successful gameplan.

From the article-

“There you have it folks…in black and white, this proves that Jeff Backus is indeed the worst starting left tackle in the National Football League”

I stand by my Bachus F bombs.

Backus’s best ability was availability. Guy was as durable as a Tonka truck. That’s where my praise for him ends, forever. I didn’t hate on him, but like most, I would have rated him as the 25th best starting LT on a year to year basis throughout the course of his career. Not worst in the league, but someone most organizations would have moved on from instead of handing them lucrative extensions.

Lest we forget, the only reason we had him in the first place was because Mike Holmgren screwed the Lions once again, with Seattle, by swiping Steve Hutchinson the pick prior. The number of impact players we could have taken is thow-up-in-your-mouth worthy. I’d prefer not to relive the GM years of the idiot who must not be named.

I’m never going to be totally down on Bob Quinn if only because he really did give the Lions one thing they lacked since 1991, a good offensive line.

I think that’s where fans have it wrong. He was never top 10 but he also wasn’t in the bottom 10. The snippet I posted above kind of tells the story of Backus. As a left tackle he was around 14-18 on a “year to year basis.” But the focus was always on the things he wasn’t as good at as the 13 guys that were better. But that never really took into account the 13 or so guys who were not as good as Backus.

Backus never had a quality LG. I’ll take it further. Most of his career, the LG sucked. Backus got the blame for an inept G play.

This is why he is here.
Yes, he is a “project” at “guard”… because he played OT in college.

May be, but that is where the Lions had him projected from the time he was drafted.

What position did Vatai begin his NFL career at?
What position did Nelson begin his career at?
What position did Glasgow begin his career at?
How about Ragnow?
Sorsdal just played in his first NFL game at a position he hasn’t practiced with the team, and, he didn’t shit the bed. In fact, he had a few really impressive downs.
All I’m saying is give the man a chance. He’s not a one position player.
Just maybe Brad knew what he was doing?

Don’t disagree.
He did practice at T towards the end of camp, not much but a little.
I don’t doubt Holmes when it comes to the draft, not perfect, but hits way more than he misses.
