Next years team could be another stacked team and that is before the transfer portal

Cadeau/McKinney/Cason coming back the incoming 3rd ranked recruiting class the interest in some players in the portal.

If they take 37 years to win the next one, I’ll never make it.

If you go before me, I promise to spread your ashes in the Pacific Northwest. Seems only fitting. Based on your feistiness, I’d say you have at least 30 years left in you.

And still, of all the teams I root for, Michigan - Lions - Tigers - Pistons - Red Wings. The only team I have NOT seen win a Championship is………….I think you all know who. Many of you are probably in the same boat as me.

This organization is prepped to win right now. They got the dollars, the recruiting, and the in game strategy. The B1G as a whole should be following this model.

Cason is going to red shirt next year…..rehabbing the injury.

Good article on the mercenaries.

Talks about the three bigs coming to UM who all played C for the most part on their previous teams and how it took a minute for them to grow into the new role/position on the team, with the first true look coming in Vegas as to what they could be.

From start to finish, Michigan basketball knew it had a ‘special group’

“Immediately we knew that the chemistry was good. As far as the talent level, we knew that we had the pieces; it was just a matter of time before everything started coming together,” Gayle said. “In the Vegas tournament we set a standard as far as what we’re capable of. We still had room to grow, but it was cool seeing the things we were able to accomplish.

“Our buy-in and our ability to understand our roles (changed). Early in the season, it was still up in the air — who was going to be the scorer, who’s going to do this or that. Over the course of the year, we were OK with everybody doing everything and being happy about each other’s success. I think it took time to see that in real form.”

May likened the strong showing in Las Vegas to growing bamboo because “it shot to the sky out of the blue.” It was rather unexpected because the team didn’t play well in the preseason or in the previous games leading into the early-season event.

Part of that had to do with Johnson, Lendeborg and Mara — all centers on their previous teams — adapting and learning how to coexist on the court without causing spacing issues.

“When they were all on campus this summer, there were several days where I thought to myself there’s a high probability this isn’t going to work,” May said. “And then if you watched us play the first couple games of the regular season, I think you’d probably agree that it wasn’t working.

“I give our guys a lot of credit. They’ve done a nice job of solving problems and putting the puzzle pieces together the right way, appreciating each other’s talents, and figuring out how they could be their best while also playing next to a guy that’s big and talented.”

As the frontcourt trio worked out the kinks and established themselves as one of the top units in the country, the Wolverines took off.

It was a fitting end to a historic and dominant season, one where numerous program marks were set and Big Ten records were broken. And it was a goal the players, like May, firmly believed they could achieve well before the season began.

“I knew we had a group that could do this since Day One, since everybody came together,” said guard Elliot Cadeau, who was voted the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player. “Seeing a dog, seeing basically an NBA player every time I looked to my left or my right, I knew we’d be a special group.”

And an unselfish one. When May dipped into the transfer portal and made four high-impact additions — starters Yaxel Lendeborg, Aday Mara, Cadeau and Johnson — he brought in players who were willing passers that shared the game.

Cadeau was a pass-first point guard. Mara, a 7-foot-3 center, was a gifted passer out of the high post and against double teams. Lendeborg, the star forward who earned Big Ten Player of the Year and All-American honors, was more concerned about getting his teammates involved than he was putting up big numbers.

Returning players like Nimari Burnett, Roddy Gayle Jr. and Tschetter saw their playing time decrease. Freshman guard Trey McKenney, a McDonald’s All-American, came off the bench. Nobody cared about their minutes or stats. Everyone sacrificed and pulled in the same direction.

The group was tougher than last season, an area the staff recognized and addressed. The team was more talented than any of the coaches had ever been around. The potential and expectations were high, and everyone embraced it.
