Jahmyr is what Jahvid could’ve/should’ve been.
I’ll never forget that MNF draw play vs Urlacher/Briggs that went for 88 yards.
This Gibbs run above reminded me of that play. LINK
That’s really funny, my son and I were at the game, and there was a fan wearing a Best jersey. He was my favorite player, and my son said “hey that’s your guy!” I told him the same thing, Best was our Gibbs at the time until the concussions finished him off.
I didn’t realize their numbers were so similar, that’s almost eerie.
I thought the same thing watching it. I really wish we would have let Best sit out a season before playing. Not sure if it would have helped but that one he took in college was awful.
Gibbs was so fast on that run that guys who wanted to block for him downfield didn’t even try. By the time they looked up he was already WAY down the field.
Jahmyr is better than Jahvid ever was, but he also has the advantage of having a far superior OL.
Agreed. The thing that really puts Gibbs above Best though is that he’s not just fast, but he’s also physical and has much better contact balance.
One concerning thing with Gibbs is how often he lowers his head and takes a hit in the helmet. Sandman’s slowlights often show how hard he smacks his head.
Makes me cringe. I don’t want to see a shortened career.
Don’t get me wrong. I love his aggressiveness and how BOTH he and Montgomery run over and through people. Just noticing how often Gibbs leads with his head when doing so.
Best was super fast… But Gibbs follows his blockers better. Better vision and can also run inbetween the tackles. I think Gibbs might be the best running back in the nfl right now. Sure Henry has the stats but he plays with Lamar. If Gibbs was in the backfield with Lamar he’d average 8 yards per carry…no joke

Lol no. Jahmyr runs with violence and can gash teams between the tackles. Gibbs is a real RB Bests ceiling was that of a role player.
Felt like Best was faster… He had jamo speed in the straight lines. He also had a jump cut that was unlike anything I have ever seen before or since. He would be running at a player, jump left/right 2 yards and then reaccelerate immediately. Impossible to stop in the open field 1 v1.
All that said, Gibbs is a much better overall RB. Runs tougher. More shifty and slippery. Better balance, especially after contact.
Miss Best and wish he had a better pro-career. My third favorite Cal bear of all time after Goff and Lynch.

Where does Erin fall on that list? I must warn you, your answer may result in a permanent ban from the Den.

He’s not on it. I LOVED him when he was at Cal. He was a different person then. Goofy and fun. What he has become… I stopped liking Aaron around the time we got Goff as a true freshman. Aaron’s me first attitude is just so off putting.
Goff is a guy you can truly root for.
Last night I couldn’t help but find myself hoping for the Texans to wipe that smug smile off his face.

(Note: Twitter didn’t exist in 2003, this is totally made up!)

I really like this quote verses the line that he has great balance after contact. I think both Gibbs and Monty have insanely good “contact” balance. They both are able to maintain balance through contact. Some backs seem to just fall down when hit while others have that weird balance to maintain their feet through the contact.
I am really hopeful they can maintain their health by staying true to this rotation thing they have going. I am assuming most of the dual RB stuff with them both on the field will be saved for the playoffs. But I think we have been saying this for awhile
Alright I’m convinced. Welcome back to the Den, brother.

100% yes to all of this.
Gibby is better than Best in almost every way.
Best was AWESOME though…possibly even a fraction of a fraction of a second faster.
Gibby cuts better, stronger runner, harder to bring down, better pass catcher, and I think will be a better blocker too.

So I started at Cal in the Boller era and it was so awesome when Cal turned it around. I remember watching him and thinking, his accuracy is suspect. He had a Stafford like cannon for an arm but it just felt so inconsistent. Good dude, but he never lived up to the “jesus in cleats” nick name he got from high school.
