It’s not for lack of trying though. Mazi Smith was a 1st rounder. Trysten Hill was a 2nd rounder. Odighizuwa was a 3rd rounder. They’ve spent more draft capital on their interior DL than we have.
The problem is Hill was a bust, Mazi seems to be on his way, and while Odighizuwa was a hit, he’s a pure pass-rushing 3T. Not much help against the run. And there’s been no adjustment by the Dallas brass to these facts.
How long before they go to Linval Joseph and Carlos Watkins?

I feel like Joseph is almost a must at this point, but the problem is that by putting in a 35-year-old guy (36 in two weeks) whose only skill left is absorbing double-teams, you’re pretty much admitting Mazi is a bust. And I just don’t think they want to admit that yet.
And Watkins is on his 6th team, a few of them practice squad only. If he’s the answer, the question is too big.
I don’t think Zimmer will have any reservation about moving on from players that don’t play up to snuff. No way he’s content to be dead last in Rushh defense at 185.7 yards per game. At this rate, the whole team is going to bust.
The FO might though. They’re not the types to admit when they’re wrong.

My money’s on Zimmer. Between playing who’s giving them the best chance at winning vs playing patty-cake with the Jones family, I think he’s going to dial things in. There’s a bigger picture here that the Jones family can be sold on, even if its a needling sort of manner that Zimmer is capable of.

Well like I said earlier I think Joseph at least is a must if they want to shore up their run D, but he is 36 in 2 weeks, so even that might not work. He can’t be worse than Mazi though.
And I’m still not sure Jerry will let him do it. Zimmer’s stubborn af, but anyone who’s tried to out-stubborn Jerry so far has been shown the door.
Or, he might be fine for a few games until he wears down.
They can’t run the ball and they can’t stop the run. Seems almost like the perfect opponent for us.
Should definitely be a very similar gameplan to the one against Arizona.
