“Well that could make a difference on Sunday”
Yeah right. We start Jahlani Tavai at an inside linebacker position. Mattison will run circles around this defense and JJ and Theilen will feast.
Damn, that sucks.
With this and Stafford pushing hard to play on Sunday, I have little doubt that the Lions win this game. They almost always play well in the final meaningless game.
“Meaningless” to whom?
Not surprised, none of the stars should be playing. It’s basically a preseason game.
Actually, it is a meaningful game. It’s a must lose game
“Must lose” for whom?

Fans that want a higher draft pick.
For us long suffering fans who (most) know that a win this week would be stupid.
Why would it be stupid?

What do the coach’s and players want?
Because it would result in the Lions having a lower draft pick and the team gains nothing by winning.
At this stage, the only thing the Lions can improve is their draft standing. Winning this game does not improve any other scenario for the Lions.
For the game to be over so they can be on vacation unless they are a fringe talent hoping another team sees their abilities, which fans don’t and shouldn’t care about.
Is this that hard to understand? I’m not trying to be disrespectful by asking that, but it seems fairly simple so I have to ask.
Fans and fringe players have a different interest in this game, yes. Are we fans or fringe players?
We (fans) should want a loss here.
We have given up close to 50 points a game the last few weeks. Kirk Cousins will throw for 400 yards and 4 TD’s easily.
Because it’s meaningless
All we need to do is lose, haha
Yep. Hoping so.
A loss would be a better long term result for the Lions than a W this Sunday.
If the Lions were still in the playoff hunt or stood to gain something by winning I’d sing a different tune. I always want the Lions to win unless they are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. At that point, let the L’s roll in.
Watched the Bevell morning podcast today - no one there thinks it’s meaningless and I love how he emphasized this simple life fact… no one is guaranteed your next breath, heartbeat or day.
This game on Sunday may be someone last chance to ever wear a NFL jersey and play …
Yep!!! I want a win…
But you don’t wear an NFL jersey or play…You understand that your interests can be different than current players on the teams interests, right?
Hey man, I love the Lions too so if you want them to win I’m not going to argue with you. But not understanding the consequences of a W vs an L here is a bit hard to understand…
The fans and future GM of this team lose if the Lions get a W on Sunday. The fans and future GM of this team win if the Lions get an L on Sunday. The fans care about the future of this team. The fringe talent players hoping to make a name for themselves so another team will hire them in the future do not care about the future of this team. Care more about the team and it’s future than the players that won’t be a part of it.
It’s simple. Don’t overcomplicate it.
Bevell and the players should coach and play their butts off to try to win, that’s their job. As a fan, a win is absolutely meaningless and potentially harmful to the long term plan. You can root for a win and that’s your prerogative but I will be actively rooting for a loss.
