I think the full quote is important. “We’re good right now”. Doesn’t mean that doesn’t change later on in the season.
I think it’s certainly possible that Za’Darius wants to play for the Lions but is cool with sitting out part of the season. If the Lions need him early on in the season he can sign here. If the Lions stay healthy at edge though then he may sign elsewhere.

Saying we’re good , I mean I hope he’s right but if our pass rush is bad and and we get bounced it will be on this staff. I think if Davenport and Hutch stay healthy they may be right. Still it seems like there betting the season on it.
I think he loves enjoying the celeb life…. He’s out there running around the world with his celeb gf, they break up online, then take vacations together. he doesn’t seem too serious about football right now unless you make it worth his while money wise.
I still think he plays in the nfl this season though.

I think it’s what Dan and Brad keep saying they like there guys , I’ve been saying for awhile Z isnt coming, they like the guys we have and believe Davenport will play most of all of the season.

Lots of factors in play:
1.) Need to save money for roster adjustments as injuries dictate. If we sign Z and stay healthy at edge, that’s less money to cover other positions of need if injuries happen.
2.) Rollover as much money as possible assuming injuries cooperate this year to help with upcoming contract extensions.
3.) Don’t think Z did anything to piss someone off. They like who we have and adding Z is a luxury/cost that the staff doesn’t feel is warranted right now.

My prediction at this point.
They told Z. “Hey were good for now, but if we get too many injuries well call you, sound good?”
Hence why dan said “Were good, RIGHT NOW”
And Z is probably ok with that because he cant rest spend time with his girl and do detroit things. Go to Tigers games etc. then when he gets the phone call, make a few bucks, chase a ring. All is good”
People have the fascination with Za.
He ain’t coming.
If you look at his reps last year, Without Hutch, he was a part time player.
That is how Dan and Holmes view Za.
Za still believes he is a starter and should get paid like a starter,
No team in the NFL views Za as a starter.
The longer he stays away from football the less likely the Lions, or any other team, are to sign him. Za hasn’t done any football activities in over 8 months.
Even if there are a rash of injuries Holmes is likely to reach for active football players before calling Za.

I hope we don’t have all the injuries that we had in 24, I expect a few/some, so maybe at that time, the comment “we’re good.” becomes a “ hey guy we could use your help.” it could happen and it may never happen.
That’s been my biggest worry. If we get hit by the injury bug again Holmes is is gonna take some heat for the lack of proven depth.
