And? If in two years something goes terribly wrong, how does this hurt the team? There is no Cap on Coaches. An extension if now is a win/win for all!
Bingo. There are nothing but benefits to Dan, this team and the city in extending Dan. On the flip side, there is zero economic or financial impact to the team. It counts for nothing. It’s like paying the Janitorial team at Ford Field and Allen Park. There are no books to balance when it comes to coaches.
When I think of an extension, my mind jumped to one of those bizarre 10-year things. If they want to add 2-3 more years to the current one? I’m good with that. I’m just not a fan of giving one of those ridiculous double-digit year contracts after a year or two of good performance.
Worked out well for the Steelers and Cowher, Pats and BB, Ravens and Harbaugh, Seahawks and Pete. Should I go on?

I’d just give him a contract that guarantees he’ll be the highest paid coach in the NFL…so it would change every year.

Look, I said it earlier–Dan is great. But you’re ignoring a ton of bad long-term deals here.

Dave Aranda.
Mike Mayock.
Jon Gruden.
Monty Williams.
Josh McDaniels.
Mel Tucker.
The list goes on. And on. And on.
I’m not saying Dan Campbell will be any of that. I want him here for as long as he wants. But let’s not pretend these contracts have a great success record.
Since we have a good and pretty young coach already signed for 3 more years… I’m not sure what the question is?
I would take this Vikings team with Goff over our Lions with Hooker or Teddy the next 2 plus years.
I’ve watched Goff be a few drops and a run game from a SB at age 23… I’ve never watched Campbell coach a team with a Daniel Jones or Mac Jones level QB and make the playoffs.

The vast majority of coaches with his level of success get extended.
You don’t extend him and he might pick up the phone when some college offers to double his salary
Campbell isn’t going to go to a college job.
The Lions will extend him when the time comes.

At some point, many will accept that Goff was closer earlier and more often to a SB than even the mighty Josh Allen

Ok don’t think other NFL teams aren’t watching what Dan did here. It is very hard to find a coach that can change/build a culture like he has. Teams like Washington would love to get him and they will throw a brinks truck at him and pay the compensation with no problem. And if that happens, guess what, Lions fan will crying in their collective beers again….

The Lions are already into the end of 3 full years with this regime. It’s not an eternity. Wasn’t very long ago they got off to an 0-10-1 start with this regime and most of you were trashing him. I guess you had no idea a division championship was coming right in 2023 right?? These three years have gone by in almost a blink of an eye

Probably Parcells, who did with 4 different teams and Jimmy Johnson but your post is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. It is VERY HARD to find a coach to do what Dan has done. As you said this team is in its best shape since forever….

He actually picked up the phone when Texas A&M called?? I mean did A&M actually call him. We know that for sure?? I mean I know he was listed as a candidate and I know this because I started the thread on it. But I never said they called him and he picked up the phone!
Coach Dan is more handsome than any of those cats. we all know…handsomeness puts asses in seats!
