Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell publicly clarified his position on Texas A&M’s coaching vacancy Friday after he was asked in a press conference whether the Aggies approached him about the job.
“Maybe,” he said. “But that’s all good. Certainly, I know some people there, and I love my school. That’s my alma mater. I want to do anything I can to help them but coach for them, and I’ll do that.”
Yep. They absolutely reached out and he picked up the phone.
But my point is I don’t see where they offered to double his salary….that’s the statement you responded to when you said that literally happened a few weeks ago
This article just exposes Carlos as a fraud imo. IF he really appreciated DC and who he is then he would realize that DC is not remotely thinking about making more money right now. That is not who DC is yet Carlos who talks about how different DC is and what he has accomplished goes completely anti-dan in his thinking.
Well what I think it was is that they contacted Dan and, like, 5 other candidates. In what order I don’t know but I would guess that when they called Dan they simply said “Hey man you are one of a few candidates that we are considering for our HC vacancy”….and Dan may have said at that point “who are the other candidates??”……A&M gives the names and Dan says look man, love you guys and I’ll do anything I can to help you except be your head coach”. Not saying I know for sure but I am just taking a guess
None of those have ANYTHING to do with Dan Campbell……otherwise you would have to include the list of coaches that teams did lock up like the Steelers with Tomlin, the Saints with Payton, the Ravens with Harbaugh, Patriots with Belicheck, the 49ers with Shanahan, the Rams with McVay. We can’t conviently ignore extensions that did work out just to stick to a narrative
I guess Richard’s point was that you provided a selective list of guys who failed and ignored others who didn’t. He expanded your narrative for a fuller picture.
Well, three years in I would think there is a pretty significant difference between that list and what Dan Campbell has created built in Detroit.
I listed more than three my friend and you only listed a handful yourself, so are you ignoring anything?? The bottom line is this, its a 50/50 proposition so you can’t give a definite opinion of it.
He doesn’t get that it’s a 50/50 proposition either way you go…so you can’t choose half of the 50 and say this why or why not the Lions should extend Dan. I personally base it on what Dan has done.
You listed four positive and no negative. I responded with seven negative and said it can work but there are a lot of times where it doesn’t. We both want Campbell here. I’m just looking at it subjectively and saying “Hey it could work but is it necessary right now?”
For everyone saying “BuT tHoSe GuYs WeReN’t DaN cAmPbElL!!!”
True. But most of the guys who got long-term contracts that didn’t work out earned them in the eyes of fans and the organization. It’s a gamble. I get why many would be willing to just give him a 10-year deal or whatever. But as someone else pointed out, he’s 23-25-1 as a head coach in Detroit at this point. I think he’s on the upswing and the team is headed in the right direction
but there is plenty of time left to give him an extension on the next year or two.
You arguing that it’s not necessary right now is borders on foolishness. I mean like I said, you never know what could happen and if another teams comes throwing the brinks truck at home, and perhaps, gives him full control then don’t start bitching. That’s all I got
Name me just one coach who took over a team in salary cap hell, had QB#1 request a trade to avoid another rebuild and had to get rid of players with bloated contracts from the previous disaster and had them finish as conference champs by year 3! All this in less than 3 years!!!
Can you name even 1?
When you hit the gold mine, make sure you take ownership of it. You extend Campbell now.
We don’t need to discuss this any further, Brad and Co. will have this done before the start of 2024 season. It’s called intelligence.
This thread has taken the typical turn of a fan msg board forum arguing over nothing of importance. Splitting hairs and straining at gnats to no end on a topic that matters little.
Dan Campbell has made it plain he wants to be in Detroit. S Ford Hamp hired him and is thrilled with what he is doing with this team.
The extension is coming whether after this season, next season, or season five matters little and I have no doubt the timing will be perfect for this owner.
