Joining practice squad.
Interesting
He should be an asset for them in the film room.
I’m surprised he didn’t end up in SF.
But if he was going to go to a teams PS I can see why he chose MIN. They have a solid OL and plenty of play makers.

I suppose if you’re in need of reclamation, the team with the poster-boy of reclaimed QBs is the place to go.
(That, and Kevin O’Connell has shown himself to be classy dude toward other young, developing QBs.)
Good way to get a comp pick next year.
Oh wow, Minny is now the favorite to win it all. What will we do with such a supreme talent now in the mix in Purple Land? Is he an upgrade over Mullens? Probably. But they’re rolling with Darnold, as they should. He’s a mobile QB that can make throws when he’s seeing the field well. It’s the Darnold show until JJ takes over next year. He gets an opportunity to be on a playoff bound team, only to lose in either the WC or Div round. Congrats DJ!! Then you can write another script and read it out loud in front of the media about how thankful you are for the opportunity given by Kwesi, KOC, and the entire Vikings organization and how the fans welcomed you with open arms!!
Stop saying nice things about divisional rivals!! How dare you.
Even if it’s true about KOC (no doubt it is) - there will be none of that here.
Are they really going to turn it over to JJ next year? I can’t think of a time when a team willingly let a QB walk after such a good season just bc they drafted a replacement. KC maybe? But Alex Smith was not producing like Darnold.
You’re right.
That’s at least the 3rd time I’ve said something positive about him, too.
So, this is actually strategy by Jones. I heard where he might decide to sign with someone’s practice squad so that IF another team loses a QB, he can be signed right away off the practice squad.
The Chargers with Brees in 2004
That’s a good point Touchdown. IF, IF, Darnold keeps producing like he has, they’ll have a tough decision. I don’t watch many Vikings games, but fans still think he’s a TO machine, makes bad throws at inopportune times, and isn’t that top-flight Franchise QB that they believe they got when they drafted JJ. The offense can be good (like it was against the Bears), or just outright bad (see Jacksonville game). Would they sign Darnold to a big contract (not top tier contract, but still $40MM+) or roll with JJ and use that money to load the rest of the roster? No idea. But you bring up an interesting point that I overlooked.
Its the jefferson effect. Having him on the field makes any qb look good.
No, I mean, yes, he’s amazing and helps… But their offense is loaded with talent and their HC is a great offensive mind.

His numbers are almost identical to Goff’s…
Tampa chose to stick with Mayfield, which I think is the right decision, but they didn’t draft a QB in the 1st round. I also think Baker’s contract is super team friendly… Will Darnold command more?
So I guess this means he really didn’t want to play for the 2024 Raiders.
I just wanted the comp pick.
I just wanted the comp pick.
Does Minny get a comp pick if he never is elevated from the PS?
Some QB needy team will likely pony up for Darnold. Not sure if he’d be willing to leave to go to another team for the pay day, or maybe take less to stay in Minny (the Baker type deal you mentioned) with a very good coach and talent around him. Be interesting to see how much development/time they think JJ needs before he’s what they think he can be.
If they keep their coaching staff intact, and can get Darnold back on a team friendly deal, they’ll be dangerous next year. Having JJ and Darnold battle it out for QB 1 is a nice dilemma to have.
