I couldn’t watch it-I could-have but I’m getting tired of the same way Dan approaches every presser
rinse and repeat.
Same with every coach. That’s why I don’t bother either.
Agreed, it’s all coach speak. But I was hoping to get an update on Gibbs which he provided at the very end. I like to listen for any injury updates, although nobody asked about Rakestraw leaving with an ankle injury.
I thought the best part was it went right into Rodney Dangerfield when it was over. For that I give you a thumbs up.
I always watch
A group of us have bets on how many times he says “man”
Look I either want to Detroit media to get nicer or get a whole lot meaner. Something to the effect of what could you possibly been thinking going for it on your own 24 with 4 minutes left in the game and for that matter not take the points in a tight game when both teams seem to have trouble finishing closing the deal? Are you just unable to situationally adjust?
to quite the bard, or maybe it was Ye…”well that’s pretty bad way to start a conversation…”
I’ll be honest I’m 95% out on Dan Campbell right now.
Almost everything he adds with his culture, he neutralizes with s*** ass decisions in the moment. Especially at crunch time. Add this to the terrible coordinators of which he had to fire two mid-season basically, and has another one who anywhere else would be on the chopping block. It’s not the profile of someone who after five full seasons seems to be getting it or rounding into shape or maturing into his best version of himself as a head coach.
It’s a hard truth, but it is 95% true. They have one convincing win against a pretty terrible Arizona team and a bunch of nail biter probably should have lost series of games, and two of those wins that they should have lost were that close because he’s made really really awful terrible tactical decisions.
Show me where I’m wrong, cuz I’m not.
I’m with you. Said it in another thread. Culture is great, but winning is the only culture that matters. When you make decisions that do not put your team in the best position to win, YOU are the problem. The fact Green Bay screwed up their opportunities? Great. However, you did not put your team in the best position to win by 1) Passing up an opportunity to take the lead on a FG when POINTS are what wins games, then 2) Going for it when the risk for missing it is literally giving the Packers the ball and in FG range with less than 4 to go. The fact their kicker absolutely choked, is not a “win” for Dan.
Anyone who gambles, knows every gamble is risk/reward. Every gambler will also tell you, that you NEVER chase bad bets with higher bets. Dan right now is making bad bets and just figuring there’s no way the universe will go against him, until it does.
This game was a division game, but with the amount of talent that GB has lost, and lost during the course of the game including an emergency center? The Lions should’ve rolled by 20. The fact the defense actually stopped Love’s deep downfield passes? And we got absolute gift calls? The fact this game had to come down to a last second FG is coaching malpractice.
The Philly game last year was a game that Dan Campbell absolutely lost us because he kept making bad bets, then chased and doubled down on bad bets. I thought this year he has done a better job of risk reward, but he went full idiot instead. The fact he got bailed out by a bigger idiot, doesn’t mean it was the right decison.
Dan insists the Lions need to play winning football, then goes out and makes those coaching decisions? Hey Dan, it’s becoming evident that something we need to “clean up”, is your decision making. From keeping Sheppard, to “really believing we would get it”, the problems we are having are revealing themselves.
I feel the same way. I don’t want to. I want Dan to succeed, but he just doesn’t give his team. The best chance to win at times going forward on ford down in your own territory is a terrible terrible decision in any game with that much time left. I still can’t get out of the San Francisco championship game with him not taking field goals.
LOL your wrong because it is the NFL
Did you watch KC lose?
Do you think Minny plays the right way and is enjoyable way to play?
I mean you act like it is a beauty contest.
Every team the Lions have played is a professional football team. Every single one. So they are all good.
every presser Dan says “man we got some things to work on ya know but we’re going to turn it around.” , we are five games in-when are they “turning it around?” a 'top Offense doesn’t play sloppy, it scores and keeps doing it, a top offense , doesn’t make numerous mistakes, penalties disappear, fans expect top-level play out of you throughout each game, you don’t show how bad you can be, And you earn respect around the League-do you actually think other teams fret playing us??? NO, Because we are known to play with slop, AND we don’t "actually have a defense yet-let alone a solid DC, their not worried when facing us.
Ummmm, they are not. They are all full of professional players, true.
So have been the Sacramanto Kings for the last 15 years. Dey good?
Were we good under Millen? Under Patricia because they were NFL players? I mean, besides the volleyball player they drafted.
The Titans are no damn good At All. 3 TD from your RB and you lose? Why? Your team sucks.
So does Arizona. So does NOLA.
It is a week by week league. Go beat Minny.
But if anyone thinks we are GTG to go win a SB, you’re drunk. Year 6. Clock is ticking on Dan and Brad. They will get a year 7, but a year 8 w/o a SB ring or at least appearance?

They make the playoffs 2 out of every 3 years, they’ll be here for 20 years.
What bothers me is that Dan has no interest in holding the defense nearly as accountable as he does the offense the defense yesterday would have given up 30 again if the packers hadn’t been so accommodating. Yet Dan says “outstanding!”. Meanwhile telling the offense they’re gonna get help from the coaches and that they can do better. While true it’s still concerning. I truly think Dan believes he just needs a defense that’s good enough to not lose.
This is a reflection of Dan’s philosophy – field a juggernaut offense, and a defense that’s “good enough” – i.e., a defense that can get a few stops and takeaways throughout the course of the game.
That’s how the team has been constructed. On purpose.
It makes for exciting football. Good for TV ratings, jersey sales, ticket sales, buzz. It’s a legitimate way to win, too.
Dan holds each side accountable for what he expects of them. I think it’s fine as long as the expectations are clear, even if the expectations are uneven.
This seems pretty drastic.
There’s no question that Brad and Dan have made some questionable decisions but you think a regime that is one season (a “down” season going 9-8 btw) that is 31-9 outside of last season and won two playoff games with a franchise that was one of the worst in the league just a few years prior to that is close to being on the hot seat? I have to vehemently disagree.
There needs to be some improvements internally and probably externally by the deadline if they want to compete for a Super Bowl but this organization is still in a better place than most and I see a team that will be a contender for years assuming that they don’t foul it up. Maybe not a legit Super Bowl contender every year but a playoff contender with many kicks at the can to get hot and make a Super Bowl run,
I remember a scrappy St Louis Cardinals team that was 83-79 going into the postseason, an underdog every step of the way, yet they took out the heavily favored Detroit Tigers in the 2006 Fall Classic. The teams of '04 and '05 were much better, but couldn’t close the deal.
Anything can happen in the playoffs. The goal for a franchise should be to make the playoffs consistently. There’s too much variance beyond that to be able to count on anything else.
It’s clear that is the approach, they’ve told us as much.
Let’s just say that this approach gives you a 20% chance in any given year to make it to the Super Bowl.
I think that there are a lot of fans who think that a bunch of trades and running up the credit card for expensive free agent signings increases the odds of getting to the Super Bowl from that 20% to 70-80%.
I think the organization views those kinds of moves as maybe, maybe doubling that to 40% in the year of the trade, and then resulting in a major setback for the upcoming years.
I can see both sides of the argument, but I side more with Holmbell. Fans way overestimate the impact of transactions.
