Darren McCarty is what happens when an impatient 10 year old randomly smashes the buttons in the ‘create a character’ screen at the start of a video game. Random hairstyle, random beard style, random color…GO.
Is there even a name for this look?
“Hey barber…give me the ________ haircut and shave?”
Give me the flamingo high-n-tight pull-back mullet mop, with a chin fork.
A small series of choices were intentionally made, to reach this final appearance (Halloween costume??).
The life of a pro hockey enforcer is way worse than any helmet to helmet nfl hit. Kinda sad. Get paid to get punched in the face for a living so the fans can cheer.
Pucks, sticks, fists… Hockey players get all their teeth knocked out. Wild sport.
I played, my brothers played, my dad played and coached until his hip replacement… I came away largely unscathed besides my knees, but I was primarily a goalie. One of my brothers had to quit when he was 17 after his 4th concussion (2 in football)
The ONLY reason i watch WWS at times is to watch that man. The hero who beat the fu cking shit out of Lemieux. One of my favorite childhood memories was that game. I just remember being 13 jumping up and down screaming “he got him! He got him”…if you remember larionov and Forsburg tussled and offscreen mccarty got him…everyone knew mccarty got him before seeing it bc of the fan reaction…what a game.
Mac is a LEGEND. I’m about the same age as you, and my go-to memory is when he did this a few months after taking care of Claude:
I still don’t know where he pulled that from - not many enforcers doing that. Ended up being the goal that clinched that first Cup (first one that matters to anyone in here anyway).
Darren McCarty, Bob Probert, and Tie Domi all came from Essex County around the same time, this is the area right across from Detroit. McCarty from Leamington, Probert from Windsor and Domi from Belle River.
Same generation, same county I grew up in. Wrong place to pick a fight.
I got my dad the “turtle” picture autographed by McCarty… It was definitely a core bonding memory with my dad. Those Wings in the mid 90s were so much fun to watch, and you couldn’t beat the rivalry with the Avalanche… Hockey gold
