David Bakhtiari calls out NFL on player safety in wake of Rogers Achilles injury

WARNING profanity contained in link for those of you with small eyes reading with you.

Bakhtiari brings up a fantastic point. What do you think? Is the safety of soccer players more important than football players?

Did they install the same turf as Ford Field did this off-season? Also Met Life is outside and it was rainy over there, so I wonder how much weather also influences the safety of artificial turf?

There is bo difference in turf vs grass.

Just because players share it doesn’t make it true.

So i guess were just gonna ignore JK Dobbins?
Season ending injury on grass?

The World Cup is played on grass for quality and tradition reasons, not player safety. Lots of teams around the world play on artificial turf including MLS teams, but FIFA insists on grass for the World Cup because of a belief that the ball doesn’t bounce “right” on turf mostly.

My first thoughts were.

Has he made these points prior to Rodgers injury.

What stadiums are changing to grass and who is truly paying for it…and will they rip it out after the World Cup and go back to turf since it’s cheaper to maintain.

I think he has a valid point about the NFL caring more about soccer players that their own players.

Making money is the number 1 priority for the NFL and they don’t care how phoney they look while raking it in.

This is just objectively false.

NFLPA says new data shows turf fields still cause more injuries than natural surfaces - Yahoo Sports.

Owners opt for artificial turf for cost reasons. At the end of the day, it’s a matter of investment for them; and a few injuries here and there don’t affect the calculation enough to prefer natural grass.

Rodgers is a big enough name to change that.

Or we can hope.

All fans should stand with the players on this one. The owners don’t give a single, solitary ■■■■ about you.

And for multi use purposes. Makes the mid week Taylor Swift concert much, much easier.

Next time they collectively bargain will the players prioritize it over additional monetary benefit? I doubt it.

That report i dont believe separates the different types of turf.

Good turf vs bad turf. A few teams have changed to the better turf the last couple years including the lions.

Now that I believe all the bad turf fields are gone. There is virtually no difference in terms of serious injury.

Also as much players complain about injuries on turf.

They complain more about horrible grass fields.
Chicago and Carolina got RIPPED apart last year for their horrible conditions.

And lets not forget about the superbowl.

Is it just me, or is 4 plays not enough to blame an injury on turf vs. grass?

That achilles was going out regardless of the playing surface.

See some Packers fans saying the clock in Aaron’s head stopped in 2016. He still thinks he’s got more time than he does and doesn’t have the athletic ability he once did to get out of trouble. He had five receivers on that play and didn’t get the ball out quickly like the play called for.

Whether his foot was grabbed by the turf… wouldn’t be too surprising.

I think the fact that Rogers is old as dirt was a much larger factor.

No pun intended.

This is 100% a young mans game. I feel bad for Rogers (he is still a pompous a$$) but I do not think playing surface contributed much here. I can see the thought that the turf grabbed his cleat more causing him to strain the achilles. But that happens on grass also. Bad break for Jets. But with that defense they will still make the playoffs.

Nobody should disregard how bad that jets lineman looked trying to block the edge rusher… immediately fell to the turf as rodgers was receiving the snap. I am concerned about anyone that gets behind that oline.

It was brutal. The Tackles were acting like the Buffalo DEs were bulls and trying to wave them by.

The craziest thing about this is that the cost of a safer field is half as much compared to other NFL teams because two teams play there. Not to mention its the largest market in the US so you know revenues are just fine.

I also wonder if an off-season with darkness and ayahuasca prioritized instead of a TB12 regimen at 39 could have been a factor. But maybe that’s just me piling on as is this:

AR’s last completion of his career could be to Daddy Joseph…

That was my exact thought when I saw the play live.

he also was dealing with a calf injury this preseason

guess who also did before tearing his achillies

Kevin Durant

his calf was already a bit scuffed, just didnt take much to tear it seems

Turf isnt the best, and grass is usally preffered, but as pointed out, sometimes grass if not taken care of, can be â– â– â– â– â– â– â–  shite (looking at you carolina)

Is this going to start a “turf war”? Should I make sure I stay off their turf?

Cracking Up Lol GIF by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Conklin tore his ACL on Cleveland’s grass field this week.
Nothing from the video makes me think Rodgers wouldn’t have been hurt if that was grass.

I don’t think anyone can answer that question. This is why it’s important to trust the research data.
