Parsons has been great this year. Still think Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt are above him when it comes to Defensive player of the year though. Parsons will win the top defensive rookie for sure.
You are one of the dudes whose opinions I put more weight into.
Always dig your take ton all things football (especially when I agree). ![]()
Good stuff, bro.
How much would anyone not named Barry Sanders change our W/L record?
Ok let me put it a different way, Sewell plays a game a perfect game gives up 0 pressures on every play and then you have a guy on defense that get pressure on every play. Witch one do you think impacts the game more ?
Blasphemy
To be fair my response was to the “nice tackle” comment
Are we going to consider the run game?
Are we going to consider that on our D teams can scheme around talent, because the talent has no help.
They’d scheme around him if he were here too.
I’d be happy if Sewell was at the level of any of these guys:
We hit on Sewell. Had we taken Parsons we would’ve hit on that pick too. Personally I prefer getting the potential HofF LT.
IMO, the tackle who gives up no pressures is more valuable. He keeps your QB upright and healthy. Remember week 1 of Stafford’s 2nd season, when Julius Peppers crushed him and messed up his shoulder? Sewell prevents that from happening. He has also been a force in run blocking.
So what about what he brings to the running game? We have been a last in the NFL level running game for-EVAH. We have basically the same guys as last year, except for him Jamal Williams, and losing our PB Center. Right now there are FIFETEEN teams that have fewer rushing yards than us. Think about how long it’s been since that was the case. Sorry but Michah Parsons does not “get pressure on every play.” We are not going to be able to clown ANYONE for supporting Sewell over Parsons right now. It’s just simply foolish to try to do so. That isn’t downing either player. They play totally different positions and we spent enough time with a shit RT and a shit running game to recognize that it’s an important position when you don’t have one.
I like Parsons and I don’t really remember what his personal baggage was, but if he does have baggage then Dallas was the best place for him to go. They can hide all kinds of shit there!
This is Correct , it’s a matter of taste. Me I would rather have the von Miller type edge rusher. Some may prefer the Great OT. Both really good players.
Once again it’s your opinion and when have we ever had a Von Miller type pass rusher on defense ? The last 5 years one might say our pass rush was every bit as bad as the run game.
And pressure on every play was hypothetical ? Just like Sewell allowing no pressurses on every play the question was witch one impacts the game the most.
And how many plays is the right tackle going make in a game. Compared to a pass rusher that’s rushing the QB.
The best way to beat the Brady’s and Rodgers of the game is a pass rusher that’s in there face all day.
And your talking about how good are run game is, how many wins has that translated too ?
How much has it help Jared Goff ?
Goff isn’t very good, so it’s hard to tell.
Ok another question, how many games would we have won this year if we had a pass rush on the last drive ?, how many games have we lost when leading just to have the defense get no pressure and allowed teams to drive right down the field to win. I’m mean people here had called this out in plenty of games this year.
Exactly the Oline only helps if the guy there protecting is any good. Witch impacts the game less.
I was one that debunked all that Parsons crap. I lived in York county and my son had met Parsons before when he was playing High School ball, and I watched him his whole Penn St career. Parsons was my pick at 7 no matter who else was available. I still think that even thought Sewell is playing well. Edge rushing OLB’s can be game changers on any given play, can’t say that about a OT.
Yeap I believe that TJ Watt , Von Miller , LT, miles Garrett these guys impact the game more then the best RT to ever play the game. But that just my opinion.
Lots of references to substantiate your opinion:
Just a few, I consider Sewell a RT as of now
I would put our time with Suh as an example as a Von Miller type defender. Different positions, but Suh with the pressure and impact he had as far as an offense having to account for him is similar IMO.
I point to a vastly improved running game as a tangible benefit of having Sewell, and you turn that into how many wins has a 50% improvement in our ground game gotten us? Wave the magic wand then and replace Jamie Collin day one with Micah Parsons and you tell me honestly how many more wins that guy gives us and you have to put Matt Nelson at RT. If that is the metric of a Sewell over Parsons is wins on this utter shit show of a roster with a guy who’s never called plays for a pee wee team now dialing it up, then let’s do it.
If it isn’t apparent by now, we are going to need a new QB. It may come as soon as this next year. It makes it muuuuch easier to onboard a rookie QB with a strong oline and rushing attack. We may move Vaitai out for a new RG, but other than that, the line is set and will be formidable as we go. Yes we need talent on defense and we have to continue to build this thing out. Most of my mocks this year have us going like Hutch/Lloyd/Hill, so I’m as ready as you to add defensive playmakers, but if this is a Sewell vs Parsons debate, then call me unfazed that we took Sewell.
I think there is a guy like Parsons in most drafts at the LB position. Parson’s had a little more pass rush ability than most, so he was special, but we are going to need an off ball LB and if we have to bring an ILB down to rush, then Derrick Barnes can give us that. But if we insert Lloyd there… yeah baby. We need run hit cover and he brings that. We add Hutch/KT to ROk/JOk/Harris/Bryant and we are looking good there too. Pair Hill with Walker and we’re in business.
