Quite possibly, I definitely see some of the same issues in his game. But for the purposes of this vote, unless you make a very compelling case in the voting thread, I can’t see it going any other way.
I don’t like Banks as a top ten pick but I do think at this point he’s a good option. He scares me to death with the way he can’t sustain a block, but if he can get that sorted he’s got some real positives elsewhere.
I think the appeal of Grant is theoretically, he’s more than just a NT. He has the athleticism to offer pressures and pass rush. In fact he’s already done that, his pressure rate was really good for a college DT. And IF you can get a guy who can play multiple DT spots, then he becomes a perfect fit, kinda like Harmon.
They weren’t fazed by Sewell or Bosa. Probably a minor demerit but there isn’t anyone else in the draft who can do what Johnson can do. He’s a better corner than Hunter.
For some people, sure, but for others I don’t think so. Obviously I can’t prove it or anything, but given the way Sewell is wired, I can’t imagine he’d sit out any games as a business decision. Even a meaningless bowl game. I just can’t fathom it. Given the way he thinks about family, however, I could 100% see him not wanting to risk passing on what was at the time a very unknown illness that had been mostly affecting older people. Maybe that’s naive, but that’s how I feel. Given the way our FO evaluates prospects, you have to believe it’s what they believe too.
There was also a player movement thing going on in the Pac 12 about working conditions during the pandemic. This is from a Jevon Holland statement that Sewell co-signed.
“We’re not your entertainment, we’re human beings,” Holland told Sports Illustrated. “Just like you would help your family, we want to help our mother, father, grandmother, everyone.
“We don’t know the long-term risks. We have no idea how it’s going to affect our body regardless if we show symptoms or not. I refuse to put my health at risk for somebody else’s benefit.”
I agree and I almost voted for Grant for the purpose of this exercise, to “win” with the majority. But my contrarian nature won over. Most visionaries have that problem, you know…
