DetNews: Why Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs added MMA to his offseason training plan

Gibbs isn’t fighting anyone. It’s a form of training. No fighting.

you don’t know that, my best friend joined a Martial Arts training dojo last year, it was full contact just like you would IF you were actually fighting. half the dojo’s in the US are exactly like that, the others , just practice the moves and when they spar, they wear full protective gear, but not every place does-that’s all I’m saying. I’ll add, you can get muscle tears, sprains, bruises, fractures, and that just training. but I guess I don’t know what I’m talking about , and Gibby will be fine. either way, I said what I wanted and I’m done with the topic.

Given that you can get injured by reaching for a pizza in the front seat, I don’t have an objection to MMA training as long as it’s done smartly (which I would expect).

I think it’s a way of building up the body in a different way, so that other parts of the body can provide compensation during football. I think the MMA will help Gibbs to avoid injury during the regular season, in addition to making him more effective.
