Detroit Free Press

I received an email this am for the Freep, not sure about the Detroit News but Freep is offering the rest of this year for $1. May still be an overpay, it is the Freep, however, in case you are interested.
As one who has a subscription to both I prefer the News but don’t know if they are offering something similar.

Overpay.

I just cancelled my online Free Press subscription. I started it at the $1 rate, which went up to about $10 for a year or so. Whatever. They recently bumped me to $15 and I said goodbye Birkett and Carlos. I still have Detroit News at $10 for the moment. Justin Rogers rocks.

I’m not sure why anyone pays for any legacy media. I am in favor of the independent reporters on just about all topics. Substack, Twitter, Locals, or any platform that promotes the unfiltered and unfettered.

I had the same occurance a while back.
They, News and Freep, offered two years for $11 each which was enough to get me back. Expires next August which being just before football season will have me hunting for another deal. They usually offer them and I don’t mind paying as I like the Lions/UM coverage and it’s cheap.

I do that as well, love doomergT on substack, but I don’t mind paying for a few legacy sites. Still have the WaPo which was only $40 for a year and a few others.
Archive dot ph is great but paying less than a $1mo or $3mo to not have to copy and past 20 articles every morning is a convenience I don’t mind paying for.

yea, I don’t disagree but I’m a junkie on Lions/UM/ and some of the Tiger coverages they offer. Plus I’ve gone from buying coffee 20x a month to maybe 5x a month if that so I’m willing to overpay.
Freep has been interesting, at least once or twice a week they have an article from a Columbus paper on the Buckeyes under the UM link, started in the last few months.
