Detroit goes after Ragnow's signing bonus

I can’t believe these clowns did it again. Didn’t they learn anything from the Calvin Johnson debacle. No wonder the head games from Ragnow. Jesus, show some god damn class to your players.

Paywall.

Am I right that there are no cap implications to this right? Just money motivated?

Make him pay back with interest too.

You signed 4 years Frank, you only played 2.

Now give us some money

What a joke this organization is.

I have no problem with it. The guy quit and left the team in a bad spot. If you or I got paid in advance for a job and didn’t do said job don’t you think we’d have to pay that money back?

I know it’s created some issues in the past but I believe the Lions treat their players very well and that’s different from the past.

What do you want to bet the Lions don’t go after his bonus since he is retiring?

Yeah, I mean, I don’t have a problem with this overall, in principle. The only thing that makes it bad from a PR perspective is that other teams don’t do it…even if they should.

The guy’s body broke down, playing his career for your team.

Then don’t do it. Learn from bad history.

Like we all say, it’s a business. I don’t like the Lions doing this either, but the more big $$ that gets dished out, Detroit may be the cause of this trend moving forward.
I recently resigned from a position that paid me a relocation bonus of $10K. I signed a piece of paper stating that I agreed to pay half my relocation bonus back if I left before 12 months. I left before my 12 months. I paid it back, didn’t like it, but it was an agreement I was well aware of, no hard feelings on my part.

Things are different now in the organization. They were Mickey Mouse and those things only made it worse. Players WANT to play for the Lions now. not that that’s the reason I think it’s OK.

He was only 29 and yes, he gave it all and I’m not suggesting he did anything wrong but he was paid very well by the Lions and HE broke the contract. If he has a problem with it, and I have no idea about that, I’d be surprised.

A lot of good talent left this year, a lot of guys signed elsewhere.

I’m not sure if this is still the case or not…

I know guys want to be drafted here, we take of ours.

The guy also has a ■■■■■■ up foot that may never heal

It may be legally correct for the Lions to go after the money, but it isn’t good form

Someone on the board said there was more to the Ragnow “coming back / not coming back” fiasco last year than met the eye.

If that situation was viewed as a dick move on Ragnow’s part by the organization, I wonder if this could be retribution?
