Seriously its the draft brad! If lions didnt have a 1st going into the draft us lions fans would still watch the first rd especially it being in Detroit. We would be holding our breath waiting on each pick for “trade- lions are on the clock” to scroll across the bottom of the screen.

I would LOVE to see us trade down 5 picks or so and pick up an extra. And then Brad will say he still got his guy regardless lol.

This is hardly a revelation but for me the key to Detroit’s drafting strategy is identifying someone that they’re likely to just love. Appropriate character is a prerequisite. They like guys that are lively and confident but they can’t be loose cannons and have to be team - first.

They do seem to be super confident about their ability to sift the Lions from the non-Lions - and in many ways that’s all that seems to really matter to them. If you don’t feel like a Lions - you’re pretty much off their board. If you feel really like a Lion - they’ll will that feeling into a reality. I personally find this a bit weird and almost mystical, but you can’t really argue with the results so far.

So trying to read the runes - I’d speculate that there’s 2 guys they’ll just love: Terrion Arnold and Johnny Newton. And if there’s someone they really like - I think they’ll be prepared to go and get them. They’ll only start to think about value - when there isn’t a guy they like or they can’t get a guy they like. I just think that’s part of Holmes’ DNA. For me, he’s really a purist. He’d seemingly rather get burnt by making his decisions his own way - than get burnt by compromising and playing the percentages.

Yep, been saying this all offseason. The key is identifying the guys they fall in love with, and I think both of those guys qualify.

However there will be other guys where we just don’t know enough. Like last year everyone thought he would love Nolan Smith - and maybe (probably) he did. But not as much as Campbell and Gibbs clearly.

And honestly this year there seems to be a bigger bag of guys they could love. Part of that is because the class is old af and full of 5th and 6th year guys who worked their asses off to give themselves a shot, but just overall there are fewer and fewer guys skating by on their athleticism anymore. College is weeding those guys out before the NFL has to.

Arnold/Mitchell/Fuaga are the ones that come to mind, or a small trade up to ensure he gets Kool Aid. He’s the press man specialist and he may not want to take a chance of losing him a couple picks earlier than 29.

Say it again for the slow kids in the back of the room.

Latu turns this DLine into a solid mirror of our oline. One of the absolute best there is.

I never saw him play live, and I laughed at some of the player comps on him. I mean come on, Maxx Crosby, Watt, Bosa?

Then I went and actually watched some of the video on him…I’m not laughing at the comps anymore.

If The Lions have him cleared medically, I can absolutely see them trading up for Latu.

Yeah. Latu is more valuable to us than any one else at 29 plus our 3rd… hell i am down to trade 61 and 29 for him. If we get latu plus 1 other top 100 player i am golden.

We should focus on Tennessee.

Knock-knock-knockin’ on Seven’s door

I actually thought a bit later that this was the player they had the draft room split on. Nolan Smith vs Campbell. Because I really wanted Smith and felt he was a Lion type as well. Different LBs but man by the end of the year they had Campbell playing some rush LB.

They’re gonna get a pretty good player at 29. I see them moving way up in rd 2 into the 30’s.

I actually really like this analogy. But I would switch Banks with Arnold because Banks was the #1 guy (if I remember right) and seemed more pro ready. Kool-aid is like Slay. More potential. Higher ceiling.

But Banks, like Kool-Aid, was the guy who had done it. He’d been a big name for a few years. Slay was the potential/ceiling guy, and to me that’s Arnold. He hasn’t done it consistently like Kool-Aid/Banks have. I also think Kool-Aid’s floor is much higher than his ceiling, and you certainly couldn’t say that about Slay when he was picked.

There are very few 1st td players I would trade up for in this draft.
Analysis shows, other than for QB, trading up is the wrong approach (especially in the 1st).

Maybe Arnold or Q. Mitchell if one of them falls into the 20"s.
I agree with Holmes’ gut and think it is much more likely that he trades back.
