There is a package of requests that each organization puts together and sends to the league to input into their scheduling software. Rod seems to be getting a better feel for what to request to give us a better schedule outcome. Last year he requested for us to go on the road week 1. He has also been requesting to end the season at home. Opening the season on the road gives a better chance of the NFL agreeing to end the season with a home game.
As far as “no promises,” there are actually some requests that are set in stone. The NFL makes the computer spit out thousands of potential schedules that they review and vote on. But some items are absolutely locked in as deal breakers for that particular team/city. The NFL has the list so I don’t know what they are, I just know the head of scheduling has spoke about them. Some cities can’t support multiple activities at the same time. They don’t have the infrastructure. The Ravens won the Super Bowl but opened the following season on the road because the Ravens and Orioles share a parking lot. The Chiefs and Royals also have a parking situation that makes it extremely problematic for them to host 2 events at the same time. The “non-negotiables” are one of the things that give some teams a really screwed up schedule sometimes.
Going the opposite direction as the below 90 QB list, we face really only 6 games where the opposing QB/offense has enough juice to win the game
Buffalo, SF, Dallas, Houston, 2x GB.
Sorry Matty, I think that ship has sailed, but it’s close.
4 are road games that tbh I’d like to see early so we are as close.to 100% healthy…Unless…we want the young secindary to gel a little more. Maybe the best would be the teams with a great QB but sketchier weapons earlier (Buffalo, GB, Houston before Diggs dials in w Stroud), and for sure one GB game will be late. Dallas and SF maybe midseason?
The schedule doesnt have a lot of layups, but could be worse (AFCE+NFCE)
Im still shocked we haven’t heard ANYTHING about an official date yet.
Since they started releasing the schedule AFTER the draft its been 2 weeks after. Aka this week.
