This is the best off season move they’ve made since Mario left. Now I’ll be able to watch full games without muting the sound.
Biggest mistake Harris has made in his short Detroit tenure, not sure who did what in the trade collapse but no backup plan was a problem.
The Diamondbacks and left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez are in agreement on a four-year deal with an average annual value in the $20MM range, per Jeff Passan of ESPN. MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reported earlier this evening that Arizona was a finalist for Rodriguez’s services. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the deal guarantees Rodriguez four years and $80MM, with incentives and a vesting option that could take the total to a maximum of five years and $99MM.
I thought he wanted to stay on the east cost. Rodriguez is selfish prick.
I don’t see it that way. He’s got a wife and two children–ages 10 and 6.
It’s understandable that he wouldn’t want to uproot his family mid-season. Or, alternatively, live away from them from an extended period of time.
Yea, it’s rarely that simple, add in the family issues he had the year before and how much was lingering from that. Not sure they wanted to uproot the family or be apart for three months, which is nothing but speculation on my part.
I disagree. He could move the family with him for a few months. He screwed the organization and the fans.
The Tigers agreed to include a “no trade” clause in his contract. That’s on Al Avila.
"Rodriguez used his no-trade clause this year to block a deal to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Aug. 1 deadline. He and his agent cited family reasons.’
ER exercised his contractual right. He didn’t “screw” the organization. Al Avila did that by giving him a contract with an “out clause” and a “no trade” clause. But, that reflects just how desperate AA was to try to save his job–kinda like Quinn & Patricia were during the 2020 draft.
The club gave him half a season off to deal with “marital issues”. Full pay.
They gave Avi Garcia a plane ticket outta town for “marital issues”.
Then, instead of 60-70 days of games out of town (instead of 25-35 because road games), he fvcks the team.
Sorry, that guy is an asshole.
Also, he has had 1.5 good seasons out of 7. Hope the thin air in Phoenix lets him become the next Byung Hung Kim.
And yes, Harris made a huge blunder trying to push a deal through with a team on his no-trade list.
BUT remember, the reporting was and it makes sense that there was communication with shit-Rod’s agents about that destination and the deal got to the point of sign off and it’s done. And ERod wouldnt w/o an extension ( so the West Coast thing was BS even then), giving up FA, which he used to go to essentially the West Coast for what amounts to a $5.5M a year raise and guaranteed option year over the remainder if his original deal he opted out of, which the Tigers reportedly offered to re-work.
So again, F that guy.
Avila knew the risk and felt it was worth taking. The gamble didn’t pay off.
And, sorry, but I feel no sympathy for an organization which has so many self-inflicted wounds since Dombrowski left.
Trading Isaac Paredes to the Rays for Austin Meadows is one such example: "Meadows hasn’t been wasn’t on the (active) roster most of the last two seasons and this year and Paredes has done very well for Tampa. Paredes has hit 51 homers with 143 RBIs for Tampa. Meadows has hit zero homers and 11 RBI in 42 games for the Tigers.
Harris seems sharper than Avila, but the jury is still out.
Soto to the ■■■■■■■ Yankees. Sigh
I’d love to see a salary cap in baseball.
High price for a 1 year rental of Soto ($33m plus one good, 1 pretty good young pitcher and a couple dart throws, plus taking on Trent Grisham’s shitty bat). Also pushes Judge to play CF possibly, not a great idea. DH stacked up w Stanton. Yankees pitching is suspect and infielders are a mess. Lucky to win 88 next year as constructed
Hope ur right. I hate the Yanks more than the Packers. Judge will sure miss 60 or 70 games.
Gotta imagine they try to lock up Soto who is only 25 years old still.
I would expect them to announce an extension before the beginning of the season.
They will try, but he is essentially replacing Stanton, so its an upgrade but not an amazing level up for the team at $40m/10 years
The Yanks just have so many bad deals on the books signing old injured dudes. Soto at least is young for once.
Now Ohtani to the Jays please and thank you.
Should know in a couple few days.
Giants Dodgers Jays is the short list.

Normally I’d say the Jays got no shot. But we do have Kikuchi who went to the same high school as Ohtani and is also a legend in Japan. Ohtani chose number 17 because he admired Kikuchi.

Ohtani to the Dodgers for 700 million. Insane money for a DH who has had 2 Tommy John surgeries.
