Dillon Dingler's growth gives Detroit Tigers amazing luxury, advantage

I referenced him in another thread and how he historically improves the second go around in the same level. He is a strong defender and has the ability to be a strong RH bat in the lineup. Sure he is @HSVLion favorite bucknut in a Tiger uniform.

Dingler’s climb to the big leagues has been interesting, if not consistent. After every promotion, he has struggled for a season and then excelled the following year. It’s like he just needed time to figure out each step.

“He got to A-ball, had an adjustment period, and then took off,” Hinch said. “The next year, he got to Double-A, did the same. Triple-A — did the same, and we’re hoping that the big leagues is the same way.

========== On his defense/catching…

Suddenly, not only did the no-hitter disappear but Flaherty was in a dicey situation with Dodgers on first and second. And the intensity in Dodger Stadium skyrocketed. So, Dingler, a 26-year-old catcher, called timeout and walked slowly to the mound.

“There were a lot of moving parts, and I wanted to give him a quick breather,” Dingler said.

Smart, so freakin’ smart.

“I just wanted to give him a quick breather, lock back in and then attack,” Dingler said.

It worked. Even though the bases became loaded, Flaherty got out of the jam and was quick to credit Dingler. “Ding did a really good job, especially navigating that situation,” Flaherty said.

Did we mention that Dingler hit a homer and a triple in that game? And he knocked in three runs?

Yes, that was impressive. But it has been his growth and decision making behind the plate that has impressed Tigers manager A.J. Hinch.

“He’s got a great pulse for what’s important behind the plate,” Hinch said. “He cherishes the pitcher doing well, which is a great attribute to have.”
than his own success. And it’s something pitchers appreciate

“They know that he’s all-in behind the plate to bring out a good performance nightly for the guy that he’s catching,” Hinch said. “And it’s authentic.”

It’d be nice to get a +.750 OPS season from a catcher once in a while. Hopefully Dingler can become that level of player.
