It was refreshing to hear a pro athlete just say “the money”… Sometimes they are so disingenuous. Now, DJ had a list of things he wanted in his decision-making, but he says the first thing was “the contract”.

Delivery matters. The questions about his pay being less than a couple others in his tier… those were also answered pretty matter-of-factly. “Market”. “I was paid what the market was. No, I didn’t turn down more money from a lesser team.”
By answering the money question quickly and clearly, it allows him to communicate the real determining factors in selecting Detroit as the team he wanted to play for. The money was market and there were choices… here’s why Detroit:
