DJ Reader Contract details

Looks like there was some fluff in the details on Reader’s contract that was originally reported as $27.25M/2yr with $9M guaranteed.

Looks like it’s a $22M base contract with $7.465M guaranteed, but for all intents and purposes, he’s getting $11M this year (adjusted by his actual per game bonus) and he’s currently due $11M in 2025. OTC doesn’t have the incentives yet, but there’s likely significant incentives built into his contract ($5M). Also includes three void years . . . cap hits of $5.303M (2024), $12.243 (2025) and $3.729M dead cap (2026).

Really like this structure to protect against him missing any amount of time this season. Great work, Brad (or Mike)

If I’m not mistaken, it’s the first time since BH became GM that the Lions used void years in a 2yr contract and they used three. But they did use 3 void years in another $11M contract (Sutton). They also used void years in one year contracts also.

Cap Recognition
2024 - 25%
2025 - 57.5%
2026 - 17.5%

This deal is way better than I expected. Only 11mil AAV for a difference maker when healthy. We also have a very reasonable out in year 2 if his play takes a nosedive this year.

Excellent deal.

OTC hasn’t updated the incentive package yet, but it’s quite possible that there are some easily obtained bonus incentives that are NLTBE and/or some easily obtained escalators. We’ll know more when UFA slows down and the people at OTC have the time to update the incentives.

Are the incentives details only available to subscribers?

Remaining cap space estimate:

OTC - $27.4m
(minus)
DPJ - $0.5m
Dorsey & Daly - $0.2m
Zeitler - $4m
(equals)
Remaining space - $22.7m
(minus)
Rookie pool - $2.8m
PS & in season - $10m
(equals)
Available to spend - $9.9m

Pure guess work on Zeitler, but I’m going for a $7m deal with a $5m cap hit and $2m in void years.

Reported as 1 yr 6m for zeitler so i would expect with void you could be right/high

Yeah, just seen that. I’ve been high on every single estimated cap hit, Brad and Mike Disner really are excellent at structuring contracts and getting good value deals overall.

Overall, I think $10m is a decent ballpark guess for what’s still available to spend. Which means someone like Justin Simmons is not out of the question, and that Brad almost certainly isn’t done with free agency yet. Problem is, he’s running out of needs to fill!

Lets see where the extension numbers come in at, wouldn’t be shocked if we are low on those

It’s all Ray. Ray Agnew is the man. He’ll be a good GM some day soon.

Yes

Your estimates look good. I have us at $9.3, but I have 12M for PS ($4.5M) and in-season ($7.5). The other numbers look fine.

With the details out does this contract still cancel out the contract the Rams gave Jonah for comp picks? After signing Zeitler is there any chance we can get even a 7th?

Yes, DJ and Davenport will still cancel out Jonah and CJGJ

We still have two CFA adds to cancel Amik Robertson and Kevin Zeitler

So we need three CFA signings to get a pick (unless we can get a net value 7th). Reynolds, Romeo and Charles would all have to sign for around $3M/yr. I don’t think it happens.

I got. $22.29M left with top 51z
$6m for Zeitler
$2m for DPJ
$0.99 for Daly
$0.99 for Dorsey

Enough for ~3m more for draft picks.

Lets just call it $20m left for extensions of Goff and St Brown. And the injuries and trades during the season and the PS
