Dolphins sign WR DeVante Parker for $40M

Talk about a change in life circumstances. For much of Parker’s career he has been in the coaches doghouse. Just last year he seemed like he was going to be cut, and only got playing time when injuries hit the receiving core. Fast forward to a new coaching staff, new year, better play but still less than 1,000 yards so far…and the kid gets locked up for $40M. Wow.

Hmmm.

4 years with only 21.5m guaranteed isn’t breaking the bank but it sure seems like a lot for a mediocre WR.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. I think Parker found himself cashing-in on a bad situation.

You can only get 4 years if you pay the full $40M. Right now the receiver market is “bloated.” A guy that can catch for 500 yards is worth more than a guy that can rush for 1,000 yards.

If he does better, he’ll ask for more later and conversely, if he doesn’t live up to expectations he’ll be cut or restructured. It’s all about the guaranteed money.

Makes me start thinking about the Big Number it will take to keep Golladay…

The WR market is like the Vegas housing bubble; totally brutal and overinflated.

Yeah, that might be a scary #.
Hopefully after we sign him, we trade him for a late round pick and we all have a party!
