Pacheco was in my offseason plan in the thread where posters predicted offseason moves. I either had them drafting a rookie or adding a Keaton Mitchell or something like that. Maybe Emmanuel Wilson, a trade for Kaleb Johnson…I can’t remember. Maybe that’s why I’m so hung up on believing we didn’t do enough there.
@Wrath-SRT nope, no hypocrisy at all. I was a fan of Pacheco…there are receipts back in March before FA opened. I am not a fan of JUST Pacheco. But yes you give me Hollywood or Elijah Moore I would feel more comfortable than I do now at WR. Just as I feel more comfortable having Pacheco than not having him. Even if he’s on IR to start the season.
Also, those WRs HAVE past production. Lucky Jackson and Tay Martin have zero and are older than Elijah. It would be one thing if we are talking about a rookie or 2nd year guy who hasn’t gotten a chance yet. But lucky Jackson and Tay Martin have been around a while without doing squat offensively.
Those guys have busted at what, 4 and 5 prior stops between them? Just being former big names doesn’t make them good depth to me. But fine, if you want I will give you Philly, but you keep bringing them up rather than the other 5 teams I posted in that response. And I will still take our overall unit over Philly’s in a heartbeat.
And I did break down why I thought some of the others you mentioned did more/had better depth. And conceeded that Cincy and KC didn’t…even added the Colts who you didn’t mention…
I remember Reisman stating that as a rookie he looked crazy natural running things like wheel routes. I also remember his HS coach saying that slot WR was actually his best position. So maybe he can fill a void on third down bc I imagine he’ll be a willing and able pass protector. That is presuming Gibbs doesn’t figure that out. It would be ideal if he did.
I DO think “offensive weapon” was probably a better description of what we were looking for, and it’s too bad we haven’t been able to see what that really looks like.
The Lions kept only four receivers on the initial 53-man roster, which Holmes said was on the lighter side, but he likes the makeup of that room.
He liked the camp second-year wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa had and talked about some of the little things he does in the run game and his improved route running as things he brings to the table as he steps into the No. 3 receiver role behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. Tay Martin made the roster with the way he played on both offense and special teams throughout the course of camp.
One thing to keep in mind at receiver is Tom Kennedy, Dominic Lovett and Lucky Jackson are all on the practice squad, so Holmes can easily add numbers to that room if needed for gameday by a practice squad elevation.
Well I mentioned Netflix as a scrap heap pick up who showed up and went for over 100 against Arizona. Patrick and Josh Reynolds were waivers and cuts respectively, and they were starters. Khalif cost us peanuts at first. Kennedy is never a net negative when he has to play, and he is out there for anyone to grab for free. And that is just us. Other teams have their own versions. It’s just the nature of those positions, there are viable players to be had.
I would also add that despite somehow managing to find the one outlier, our DL still pretty much sucked the entire time he was here. Granted a lot of that had to do with other injuries, but it speaks to that serial system I mentioned earlier.
I think he lacks the most important trait a RB needs to have… Vision… Bc of that I don’t think he ever gets higher than RB3, he’s pretty much a ST only player to me
I remember Kevin Smith coming off the sofa in 2011 against Carolina and having a career game with 140 yards and 3 TDs… I was actually at that game. I agree that type of performance is far more likely from a skill position than OL/DL off the street in the middle of the season.
He got really positive reviews leading up to the 2024 season but health has been a problem since. Perhaps he has vision issues. Not sure. Not much of a sample size rather pro or college.
