Yep, but the 2025 QB franchise tag will probably be in excess of $40M, so that’s what he’d be looking at with a 3rd tag.

I only know the theoretical bare minimum, which is high AF. I don’t know what triggers it to go above that.

It’s still there and it’s usually 120% of prior years salary. So if Payne received a tag this year at $18,937,000 his 2023 tag would be top 5 DT salaries or 120% of 2022 compensation (likely 120%). So his 2024 tag would be $22,724,400.

That’s really not even too bad, when you consider he’s probably looking for 20 mill per season over several years. It sure would piss him off though.

The reason why I brought up the following years tag is because it tends to creep into the negotiation as a factor. If you are going to be owed $40M the following season there is no reason to settle for less without hitting the open market.
