Eagles continue to add, avoiding complacency with their current roster

I read a lot of nonsense on here defending Brad Holmes no matter what like he doesn’t make mistakes ever,

But this one takes the crown.

Yes Howie has done so poorly in the draft and free agency that he HAD to trade for a RB. Needed to.

My point is we don’t have to slobber over every move Howie makes. He is flawed too. I’m not defending Brad here, I’m taking a realistic look at Howie. I could list all of his moves that didn’t pan out but I don’t want to do the work, but there are PLENTY. But then whenever he does something everyone’s like ‘oh look at how great he is.’ I don’t know how it will turn out - maybe it’s great - but I feel like just cause he made it everyone wants to crown it. Well, he screws up plenty too.

Well, BH finally waived the white flag on Hooker and BroMart so… baby steps?

All GM’s screw up. It takes a special GM to QUICKLY realize his mistakes and cut bait. BH’s ego has not learned that yet IMHO. There is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Sometimes I feel BH tips that scale in the wrong direction. But, when your hit percentage is as high as BH’s is, it’s easy to believe you are indeed the smartest guy in the room.

I think he is that way with his draft picks for sure, but honestly moving on from Bromart and Hooker after two years isn’t exactly dragging his feet.

But FAs? He’s more cutthroat. Chark, see ya. Swaggy? Nope. CJGJ, gtfo. Reynolds, Jonah, Vaitai, Hockenson, etc… If they’re not fits - or want too much money - he moves on plenty quickly. And institutionally we’ve moved on from coaches who didn’t work very quickly too.

Very fair, but we did move better QB’s and DT’s to hold on to those two as long as we did and that is not ideal. I do understand projects, but as even BH has admitted, the time for that is reaching an end because there is no room on the roster.

Yeah, I agree with that. To me the Hooker pick is his absolute worst because I just don’t see how it could ever work due to his injury. A guy that needs to completely relearn how to play (our offense is basically an exact 180 of the one he learned in college) CAN’T have a year off. The odds of him hitting were astronomically low. I understood the pick - if you like a QB in the 3rd, you should usually take him - but the plan was flawed as hell. He never stood a chance.

Philly has been to how many SBs? How many have the won? Whatever Howie is doing, the shet is working. We haven’t sniff a superbowl and unless something drastically changes this year, I don’t see us getting there

So, fire Brad?

Sure, but he was given time. In fact he was in charge for 5 years, then got demoted, then got promoted again when Kelly left and won that Super Bowl their first year. His roster or Kelly’s? Probably a little of both. Then he won it again 7 years later (and made it and lost one 5 years later).

I never said he wasn’t a great GM, and I won’t. I just don’t think trading a 5th and 6th round pick for a 3rd string RB is worth slobbing his knob over. Every GM in the league makes moves like this.

In fact if Super Bowls is the baseline, why aren’t we doing the same thing for every move KC makes? They’ve more SBs and been to a lot more. Where’s the love for Veach? Hell most of the time people are talking about how much Veach sucks on here.

Just want to point out that at the same point in his career as Brad is now, Howie was about to get demoted.

Logic and common sense don’t fair real well here, which I’m sure isn’t news to you.

Not a lot of rap fans on the board, huh?

Philly = win at all cost, Detroit = build through the draft.

Philly = SF or Dallas in the 1990’s, Detroit = Buffalo in the 1990’s.

The first Dallas championship team was built mostly through the draft thanks to the Walker trade. They eventually signed or traded for guys like Haley and Deion, but the core of that team was draft picks.

Another team built mostly through the draft and sans all-in moves is KC. They have some decent-sized ling bets like Jawaan Taylor or Honey Badger but those are mostly just filling in around the guys they drafted.

The Patriots are a different thing altogether. They didn’t make a lot of all-in moves, but they made a ton of smaller moves, mostly because they had to since Bill sucked as a drafter. Those teams were full of cast-offs from other teams.

Make no mistake…Haley was on that first Super Bowl winning team. It was a head scratcher for the 49ers to trade Haley to the Cowboys the same as the Cowboys trading Parsons to the Packers.

You’re right, traded to them right before the season started. My mistake. The vast majority of that team was drafted though, and Haley didn’t cost anywhere near as much as Parsons (2nd and 3rd rounder)

Oh no doubt that Walker trade won them 3 of four Super Bowls in the 90s
