Enough blame to go around... From Holmes to DC to Glenn to Hutch.... and how to fix by Week 5!

Sounds like a smart dad.

Kyle VandenBosch used to do the same thing in Schwartz’s wide 9 defense, but KVB was a 32 year old veteran doing that, not a rookie in his 4th pro game.

I compared Hutch to KVB before we drafted him, he was overrunning plays at Michigan but they had/have a great D that compensated.

Hutch isn’t seeing the 1 on 1 situation anymore. He was early in the year. The Eagles didn’t double him and he didn’t have a great game because he played out of control and Hurts made him look stupid with his mobility. But now he’s just getting doubled because our DTs suck.

Can’t remember any career ending sports hernias…

So I’m not saying this is going to happen or anything but I do think its at least possible to turn this ship around. Here is what it would take IMHO:

  1. Continue to be among the best offenses in the game. Granted, I’m half waiting for the other shoe to drop and the defenses finally catch up to what were doing offensively, but I feel pretty good about our O as long as we can continue to win up front and run the ball.
  2. Get healthy. Getting Jamo would be nice. But getting the interior OLine back (or at least our pro bowlers) would be essential to any run.
  3. Find a way to just be competent on D. They don’t need to turn the ship completely around. Just get better (and smarter) about slowing the other team down. A couple more FGs instead of TDs. A couple of more 3rd down stops.

Any time you have the league’s top rated offense, you have a shot. And while I don’t anticipate us staying #1, I do think we’ll continue to be able to score at a rate that puts us top 5 or 10.

So we just need to knuckle down on D and let the offense carry us.

My preseason expectation was 6-8 wins, so anything beyond that is gravy for me.

I blame him every day for taking me to the Silverdome to watch Barry when I was growing up. Otherwise I probably wouldn’t have been a fan. He’s given me the gift of suffering for decades. haha

I wasn’t a Lions fan until 1989 when Barry got here. It was Cowboys first and the first game I ever went to our family went to see Lions/Cowboys in 1985…mom being a Cowboys fan and my dad and oldest brother being Lions fans. My middle brother doesn’t really give a shit about sports, but I digress. Anyhoo…I am always arguing with my Dad and brother about Lions football. They will die for this team. I can’t say anything about 1 playoff win since 1957…
