Eagles didn’t need a new rb coach for Swift?

I wonder how much of a comeback Chubb will have?

This post makes me realize that our miracle run towards the Super Bowl comes at a cost. Some of the best available assistant coaches are going to get gobbled up while we are still playing with the current staff. So if we are going to turn our attention to replacing current staff with the best available, it will require Dan and others to turn some of their attention away from the next opponent to think about next years staff and do interviews.

It depends. Is Viagra involved?

I might be wrong but the way I read his post was that Duce made a lateral career move to be with the Panthers. Less than a year later he was unemployed while the Detroit Lions are in the championship game with a staff situation that has tons of stability and promotion opportunities.

That’s how I feel so I might have forcefed the way I read it. :joy:

Deuce is the running back version of Aubrey Pleasant. Montgomery way better imo.

I’ve said all along Duce wore out his welcome here. He was the assistant HC here. On the rising Lions. You don’t leave this job, with all its stability, to make a lateral move to the freakin Panthers.

Either way I guess Cleveland is closer to Carolina than Detroit :man_shrugging:

His other option was the Jets:

duce: I know you scored a 70 yard touchdown because you juked out side but look at the hole they opened for you where you could’ve just gotten the first down frowning

This is where the concept of culture and process comes into play. If you have that in place, it allows you to absorb and train new coaches and such. I believe the Lions are very similar to the Steelers in culture. The main difference is the Lions have a much better QB right now and a much better OC.

Listen replacing the Coordinators is going to be challenging. It is a real concern.

I definitely understand that and agree with you. We are in a great place in that regard. What dawned on me is the timing of everything. Right now there are 28 teams with assistant coaches who are setting up things for next year. Some will stay in place at their current position. Some are part of a regime that is being tossed to the curb. And some are moving on to other opportunities (be it promotion or otherwise). If we were not in the NFC Championship Game, Dan and staff would be spending this time scouring the assistant coaching ranks and setting up interviews with guys. Even if we promote from within to get the next OC and DC, we will need to backfill those guys on the lower level.

Let me be more specific, using Duce as the example. Ben is moving on and we might promote from within to fill the OC role. Let’s say its Montgomery, so we need a new RB coach. Duce did not wait to see if the Lions were going to call him at that time. He has already committed to the Browns. Other assistant coaches are going to be making commitments as well, rather than waiting to see if a team like the Lions are going to call. To put it another way I will use Jim Caldwell. We hired Jim right around this time. It was after the divisional round and prior to the championship games. Jim was acquiring assistants within days of the announcement. Those guys committed to Jim and didn’t wait to see if teams in the championship games or the Super Bowl were going to call them. They were extended an offer and they took it.

I am not saying this is a bad thing. Its just weird that I root for a team that is always on the other end of it, so it never occurred to me that the best teams who have the best jobs to offer, might get scooped by some other teams just based on timing. BUT I WILL SAY THIS. Dan said him and Brad spent some time during the offseason going over the coaching plan going forward. If that planning entailed looking at potential lower level replacements, that is awesome and forward thinking. That will allow them to make some calls to guys to tell them to hold tight or at least express interest.

I would have to assume they have a list of guys they like.

And to double down I am sure MCDC has some dudes that would love to work for him. His Lions are looking stable. People like having jobs. So I suspect this is not going to be an issue getting the people we want. You can tweak titles and responsibilities.

Additionally, MCDC is the type of person who has his type of people. I suspect he has some guys who would ride or die with him that are just waiting for the call.

So I don’t see the position coaches as an issue. It is backfilling creative coordinators that concerns me.
