I wonder if some of that was a failure to coach 'em up in Cleveland. But it sounds like you know more of their history than I do!
My Chargers are funny (not in a good way). Their GM Tom Telesco in his 9 year tenure has never once traded down. Not once. That’s not good draftsmanship, IMO.
The Lions rarely trade down. But in fairness, we rarely trade our 1st round pick at all. The big move from Holmes last year trading up to grab Jamo was foreign to us as an organization. However, that was our 2nd pick of the draft. We have traded up from our 2nd pick a few times. However, our 1st pick rarely moves. Here’s a crash course on us with our 1st pick:
2022 - no trade
2021 - no trade
2020 - no trade
2019 - no trade
2018 - no trade
2017 - no trade
2016 - no trade
2015 - Traded down from #23 to #28
2014 - no trade
2013 - no trade
2012 - no trade
2011 - no trade
2010 - no trade
2009 - no trade
2008 - Traded down from #15 to #17
2007 - no trade
2006 - no trade
2005 - no trade
2004 - Traded down from #6 to #7
2003 - no trade
2002 - no trade
2001 - no trade
2000 - no trade
1999 - no trade
1998 - no trade
1997 - no trade
1996 - Traded up from #21 to #17
1995 - no trade
1994 - no trade
1993 - no trade
1992 - no trade
1991 - no trade
1990 - no trade
1989 - no trade
1988 - Traded down from #2 to #3
I could keep going but its just a bunch of no trade years.
Ha! I think we’ll get some unexpected firepower from our bald guy!
I’m hoping Carter somehow pans out.
With our new defensive backfield, we should get a lot of picks…IF we can get pressure up the middle…cuz Hutch’n’Houston are gonna go OFF, if they get some interior help.
Houston - what a shock to get that from a guy his size in Round 6. And what a bizarre stat line…8 sacks and only 2 other tackles. Is he more than a specialist?
Love it. Thing is, this April 27 draft really could become like Mega-Christmas, esp. with a little trade down magic.
If you throw down a list of players like this it might seem preposterous to some fans. And of course we won’t always get the exact players we target.
If Titans are set on a QB, and Lions’ pick lines up…
I’m walking thru your plan in my head:
-Simmons, DT - trade
-Trade down from 11 to 15 for 2nd*
-15…Bijon, RB
-18…Wright, OT
-34…Via that trade-down compensation: Campbell, LB*
-48…Adebawore, Edge
-55…Washington, TE
*To get that trade into the low 30s where Campbell is projected…might need to add Lions 3rd or 4th pick.
Every single component of this is possible/plausible.
I keep seeing this theory that we could get Simmons AND the 11th for our 6th. No way the titans go for this. They may be ok with Simmons for #6 straight up.
