I was an F-15 Eagle Crew Chief back during the Desert Storm era. I served in two Squadrons during my time. One in The Netherlands, which is what my avatar represents and also the 58th FS of the 33rd Fighter Wing out of Eglin AFB, FL.
It was a tremendous experience and privilege to work on such an incredible fighter jet.
104-0 kill ratio. Never been shot down in air to air combat.
I almost crapped my pants when I read this. 50 years old, that’s nuts.
I was a crew chief on EC-135L and KC-135A aircraft in the late 70s. Ferried a squadron of F-15s out of Langley over to RAF Mildenhall, but lying in the boomers position is as close as I ever got to an F-15.
I’ve met a couple guys over the years that were boom operators. Some amazing stories for sure. Sounds like it takes some serious skill…especially when things are rough up there. My dad was an A&P for TWA way back then and did a lot of work on the 707. Sounds like it was a solid ship.
I was just out in the Wichita area and visited an air museum next to McConnell AFB. I sat and watched your KC-135’s doing touch and goes. It’s still doing it’s duty. Amazing!
Selfridge is getting the f-15 EX. It had been rumored for a couple years that that Selfridge was going to get new fighter jets. Some thought perhaps F-35’s, but the F-15 EX got the call.
