A couple of things to unpack here as it relates to the Lions.
It’s a good thing the Lions were able to acquire both Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw at rookie contract prices for the next 4-5 years.
Such contracts may make Carlton Davis, if he plays well as expected, a one-year proposition. He may literally be too expensive for the Lions to re-sign.
If the Lions cannot fit Davis into the budget and he signs a big contract elsewhere, that should translate into a 3rd to 4th Rd compensatory pick if the Lions don’t sign more qualifying FAs than they lose.
I’d be surprised if Davis got that high of a contract. He’ll be 28 next offseason and his last season with TB was worse than any season Terrell’s ever had. Davis is more scheme-specific. He’ll undoubtedly rehab his stock with us, but I’d be surprised if they were to those levels. Terrell is a stud.
