Fans convinced Texans-Lions game was 'rigged' after controversial call

A sample of comments:

‘Most clear PI of the season,’ one user said on X. ‘No call. League is rigged for the Lions.’

Another posted: ‘This game was rigged for the Lions.’

‘No pass interference called against Lions? Rigged,’ wrote a third.

After the NFL shared a graphic celebrating the Lions moving to 8-1, one user replied: ‘Obviously had this made up pre-game, nfl rigged confirmed’.

  :joy:

I wonder if the officials mentally waved it off because Anzalone tipped the ball.

It’s as if the previous 7 decades didn’t happen.

True.

Good thing I don’t go to dailymail.uk for my sports news or any news…

Also the stupidity of articles like this…can write the same thing if they made the call saying refs took control of the game instead of letting players play. Basically always have a ready made article.

How about dont blow a lead in the 2nd half, and how about also scoring.

Joe Mixon–25 carries, 46 yards–a 1.8 ypc average.

That’s how I saw it.

That stat line kinda says we don’t trust the qb. They kept running without success.

Calling out some random call/no call in an NFL game seems to be the latest fad to get clicks. Every week I’m seeing articles about some call (or no call) and acting like it’s the most egregious call (or no call) that’s ever been seen in the history of the NFL. Whatever, it’s all click bait these days that apparently gets NFL fans all riled up on a weekly basis.

These bang bang plays with a DB on a WR happens multiple times and in multiple games every single week. Some get called and some don’t. And if Anzalone did in fact tip the ball (I haven’t watched it closely at all) then all PI is called off. “There is no foul on the play as the ball was tipped”. We see it all the time.

Tom Grossi, thinking of you.

By rule, yea definitely a penalty.

My personal opinion on said penalty is that a defender playing the ball should be able to make contact with receiver as long as it’s clear he’s playing the ball. Which it was very clear. Both players should have equal rights to the ball no matter it’s location.

Been there.
It sucks.
But, not for us. Btw, nobody agrees with them. There was very little contact before the ball got there and our LB was right there, too. It should have been picked off.

I agree but also I watch it and it looks like the WR feet get tangled which is 100% not a PI. I know this because I have been on the other side so many times. If the WR doesn’t seemingly trip/fall then it never happens like that. So I am more on the side of it was feet tangled and no PI regardless.

Is it though? Honest question. If Anzalone touched it before Arnold made contact, doesn’t that make it no PI? I get that Arnold might have gotten there a shade before Anzalone touched it, but at the very least it looked basically simultaneous in real time.

Yep. If the defender plays through the receiver, knocking the receiver out of position, then it’s PI. The receiver was out of position and was more of a blocker in the split second. The pass was also tipped by AA on the way.

I realize Gene Steritor (sp?) is a good dude and is a pro’s pro, but I don’t think he seen a clear picture and shared his opinion a little to hastily. And, at the end of the day, it is subjective in that moment. It was a good no-call and I’d feel the same way if the shoe were on the other foot.

There’s a regrettable assload of Cowboys fans in Texas, but outside of Houston you don’t find a lot of Texans fans. And a decent chunk of the state is expats from other states/countries. Personally I know more Jets fans than Texans fans, and the Broncos, Raiders, 49ers, Packers, Steelers and Eagles are well-represented too. Probably the Chiefs now as well, .

This is a horrible shot from the live broadcast, but the receiver is falling:

He was not interfered with.

Little better:

Falling, getting in Arnold’s way, while AA is about to tip it.

No PI.

Really, he seemed to misjudge it here, slowing up:

Even Anzalone ended up reaching backward.
