the easiest way is to use him like you would in madden. get him the ball every snap for a series. jet sweep, then a reverse, then a few slants and crossers then some seam shots.
then donāt use him the rest of the game so you can get your multi-receiver achievement.
I think the solution is to bring in a new guy like DPJ, have him learn the playbook / routes in 3 weeks because heās hungry (or not???) and make plays, contribute so that he becomes a significant part of the rotation the OC/QB can count on. Hopefully that sparks enough urgency in a guy thatās been here for 2 years and still not quite having the urgency to up his game/commitment.
Really good breakdown, I liked it a lot. It goes deeper than the typical ājust work harder!ā narrative that has been overplayed in my opinion.
This explanation jives with what I have seen in-game, as well as what the coaches have said. Who has thrived in this offensive scheme? Guys who are doing the EXACT right thing in terms of their routes and responsibilities. This is a natural fit for a technician like ARSB, who will drill everything until itās second nature. Apparently, LaPorta does this well too. Even guys like Reynolds and Raymond hit their spots, and are rewarded with targets and catches. These guys arenāt the best NFL wide receivers, but thrive because they do their jobs really well.
Who has flamed out here? Swift, apparently, did not always follow the script. You got the feeling that Perriman was not always on the right page a couple of years ago. So, this seems to be the key.
Even on defense - Pleasant was apparently let go (as a coach) for a lack of this execution, and they clearly LOVED Anzalone even before his emergence this year. Probably because he can nail his expected job.
For Jamo - just know the route EXACTLY and run it the way Goff expects it to. This seems correctable, and I think he can pull it off. It may be that Alabamaās offensive system did not require this level of precision. As in, 10 yards vs. 12 on an out route might not be as big a deal. But now that it is, it takes time. I think he will improve as the year goes on!
Since we currently donāt suck, I would be inclined to let JaMo be the WR 4 or 5 on this team and give him the time to learn how to be a WR like everyone else does and work his way up. Then time and opportunity are not an excuse.
I talked about this in another thread. I think the drops are more due to him concentrating on the needed precision. Reps will eventually fix that. Once he is comfortable with the precision part of his routes he can focus on catching, body control, yac etc. But he is not prepared for the ball yet mentally because he is still running the routes in his head. At least that is what I think
There is obviously a huge part of this that is on Jamo. Heās been sloppy in his route running thus far in a way that he wasnāt at Alabama. I believe this is a ātime on taskā issue as mentioned.
I do think there is a strategy / playcalling aspect to this, too. Theyāve been calling Jamoās number disproportionately on plays that have an intrinsically lower success rate. While big plays are a huge part of the value he brings and are a responsibility he should have, I do think Ben and Dan need to be smarter about getting him some easy wins now. Get him some touches in space, let his athleticism shine, and get the monkey off his back.

Jamo and St. back to back. The way Jamo moves is just different. The Lions patience is justified given the upside. I do understand how it can be frustrating and it may not work out, but the team would be derelict in not giving him more rope.
I upvote any post that contains the word, āderelictā.
And he is saying all the right things and contributing even when the ball isnāt coming his way.
I think stickem on gloves would also be effective.
We all hoped for a dominant #1 receiver ā¦ and rightfully so based on his draft position.
Iāve now accepted he was over drafted, and his ceiling is basically a Desean Jackson type of player.
But having a guy that can take the top off a defense isnāt a bad thing. Heās a long term project that will have to gradually earn more targets.
37th all time in receiving yards. I think that was always the best case scenario. A more durable, bigger Jackson would be a home run.
Still wouldnāt help, Jamo doesnāt catch with his hands. He catches with his body and cradles the ball. They need to just spray his entire midsection
At this point iām just hoping he can stay above Antoine Green on the depth chart.
