Fire Morten

Maybe Montgomery is the problem??? When was the last time this guy coach wide receivers? Has he ever coach and pro bowler???

2013 at Duke.

From 2006 - 2013 he was a WR coach.

He’s also a former WR.

I don’t think he’s the problem though.

Wow, that is bad - really, really bad. Maybe someone ran a wrong route or two? I agree on the one game a season does not make, but Morton was NOT the right hire for us. I’ll agree with Anzalone on Shep (he will have growing pains, but I have confidence in him), Morton, however, was the wrong hire - period. Nobody can convince me otherwise. A zebra doesn’t change its stripes.

Actually they did. They thought the guy who had zero snaps in 5 years at Georgia was the solution because traits or something. Then midway through training camp, they realized he wasn’t ready for it, so the fallback is now starting and Tate got moved to RG. What could go wrong?

Legit question, what would you have done?

We scouted the hell out of the best center prospect in the class, Zabel, but he went at the upper end of his range. After that, the answers at center in the draft all came with big questions.

FA? The only decent center in FA was Dalman but he got paid way more than he was worth because of it. Maybe Ryan Kelly? He’s old and not what he used to be, but he could have worked decently as a stop gap. But the Vikings gave him a pretty good contract, as much as Tennessee gave Zeitler. And he’s got an extensive injury history that really could be a problem since it’s back problems.

Anyway, I just don’t feel like there were a lot of good options.

And, I thought you were just someone getting a jump on the crowd.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

5 out of the first six, with 4 straight. We just missed the playoffs, but, beat the Packers at Lambeau to close the season 9-8. First winning season since 9-7 wasn’t good enough.

Morten was in the booth, in Johnson’s ear.

Maybe, Brunell should call the plays?

My own view is that, given the importance of the offensive line to the Lions, they needed a succession plan in place before this last off-season - similar to how the Eagles had Jurgens lined up to replace Kelce. It’s been evident for some time that the offensive line was ageing out. But I think Ratledge is the first offensive lineman they’ve drafted in the top 100 since Penei Sewell. They could, for instance, have taken Graham Barton in 2024 and plugged him in at left guard in his first year and have a ready replacement for Frank. Bortolini and McCormick were also available in the region that we picked Manu and are starting now. Although I’d agree they’re not necessarily an obvious upgrade on Mahogany. But we were really lucky that Mahogany fell as far as he did. We’d be really screwed if he hadn’t.

I realise too that this looks like I’m playing captain hindsight - but there have been a number arguing that they needed to add strength to their offensive line strengths for the two previous drafts to this one. It’s also the case that I’d argue that a lot depends on how much the FO knew about Ragnow in advance. There’s been rumours about retirement for the last couple of years. In public, Frank has been adamant that he had no such plans.

Behind the scenes, you’d imagine that they’d have a better advance warning of the Ragnow situation than we did though.

What was he saying in his ear , it should have been can you teach me that. If he was in Bens ear good thing Ben wasn’t listening.

But no this is the same assumption that got us in this jam.

Morton has been with some top notch coaches. No way he would coach like this

Yeah, there were a lot of people here who wanted to do just that last offseason. Many of us liked Barton for that very reason, and others like JPJ (who’s been OK), Frazier (who’s been great) and others. Last year was a great center class.

But none of this happens in a vacuum of course. We also had a crying CB immediate need, and a prospect - Arnold - who Brad really liked. So he has to choose. By the time our 2nd rounder rolled around, JPJ and Frazier were gone. A lot of people liked Beebe as a guard, but very few were talking about moving him to center, which is just what the Cowboys did (and he went with the pick we traded them to move up for Arnold).

He’s been with Harbaugh, Payton, Gruden and Carroll (as well as Bowles, Kiffin and Campbell) over the last 20 years or so.

Good coaches see something in him.
