Presumably, a function of their tougher schedule and wins over #9 Notre Dame and #7 Penn State.
As good as we’ve been over the past 10 years (when I really started watching sports), this is only the 3rd year we’ve been ranked number 1 at any point in the season.
Ohio State is not the best team in the country. But it will shake itself out. QB play needs to step up for them to have a shot.
After being born in Michigan and growing up there, I’ve lived in Ohio for over 35 years.
I’ve gradually had to adapt to my surroundings and now root for Ohio State–except when they play Michigan. When the two play, and my divided loyalties surface, I now root for the team I think has the best chance of winning the National Championship.
With the way Michigan has played on defense, they might be better. We should find out by about 4:00 p.m. on November 25.
I think Michigan on any normal year should win this game. Curious to see how they play vs Penn State though.
Don’t understand this. Day is still the coach, right?
It’s based on who tOSU has played and beaten to this point in the season, not a surprise at all.
Ohio State is fully deserving of #1. They have two top 15 wins.
Georgia and especially Michigan have had joke schedules. Their placement is entirely due to name brand and, in fairness, probably eye test too but then again the eye test shows them beating weak teams. I mean, Michigan’s best win was Rutgers (at home) and UNLV (at home) lol. What can anybody possibly know about this team and how good they are. I think Michigan is done if they lose, even to Ohio State, just because that schedule gives them no room for error.
Florida State and Washington have beaten LSU and Oregon respectively yet they’re behind Georgia and Michigan. That tells me that schedule doesn’t mean a ton.
Honestly, if I’m going on eye test, Oregon looks like the best team in the country. They really should have beaten Washington on the road and they demolished Utah at one of the toughest places to win in the country.
Either way, this will all get sorted out over the next month so the standings now really don’t mean much. It’s just makes for fun debate.
Georgia SOS is 100th
Uofm is 111th
You do know how good Ryan Day was before Connor Stalions started stealing signs right?
No argument here, OSU is better at stealing signs they haven’t got caught. When it comes to tattoos though, UM all day! Lol
And hopefully the Ohio State AD continues to believe that.
