I dont trust Love and while they added Parson so they should have a good pass rush, their secondary is likely terrible.. add in that they don’t have many players traditionally good at run defense and I don’t see it either.
To me it is the new shiny Parsons addition and they trust Love way more than I do. Let them have it, if we beat them convincingly the narrative will revert slightly towards us.
First, Jordan Love is a top 5 QB, just didn’t show it last year because of injury. He’s healthy now, and has the Golden Boy who can’t be covered, so they’ll score lots of points. And they can still run the ball, being a top 5 running team – so they will improve from being the 5th best offense.
Parsons is an upgrade over Clark, and shores up their pass rush – so their 6th ranked defense will also improve. Their pass rush will be SO GOOD they can afford to have mediocre corners. And Cooper will nullify the loss of Clark.
Only 3 teams beat them last year – Eagles, Vikes, Lions. Vikes take a step back with new QB, Lions take several steps back with new coordinators and losing Ragnow. Meanwhile, Pack has a 3rd place schedule. Ergo, they are in position to win the division and take on the Eagles.
The logic depends on these assumptions:
Love is a top-5 QB.
Golden can’t be covered.
Run defense won’t suffer.
Pass rush will make up for bad corners.
Lions are taking a big step back.
What the pundits don’t recognize is that these assumptions are false. Love will continue to make mistakes – his injuries last year don’t explain bad decision making. Golden can be double-covered, the rest of the WRs are mediocres. The Lions are not taking a big step back. Pass rush can be accounted for, bad corners can not. And their run defense will take a step back.
Vegas agrees. The Packers have longer odds than us.
I just think that a team we have dominated for the last two years should have to prove they are better than us before I consider them above us in the power rankings. But that’s MHO
I think this is correct. At least until Week 1 is done. And even if we lose in Green Bay, where they have home field advantage, if it is close I will just attribute it to “Home Field” advantage until we play them at our place. We lose I will agree they should be ahead of us…for now…
It’s all about exaggeration with the analysts to get a reaction. Dan O said the packers have one of the deepest wr rooms…….really? Even Schefter called him out as Watsons out for a number of games and guys aren’t practicing due to injuries. I know Golden is good but he’s a rookie and is their number 1. Schefter asked if Dobbs is the number 1 right now.
You mean you didn’t like when he had Jamo throw a pass for the first time in his professional career during a highly contested playoff game or when he ran Montgomery basically on one leg during the same game? How could it not be painfully obvious to our coaching staff that Montgomery wasn’t ready after two carries when clearly it was to the fans watching it at home on TV? He obviously was not ready to come back and they wasted multiple drives trying to force the issue. Frustrating.
