Huge ZZ Top fan.

This one gets me. Feeling old now.
That reminds me of someone in an AA meeting who seemed distraught years ago. She got up and motioned to me to come outside with her. I followed her outside where she informed me that she was going to be old tomorrow. Not today, she was not conceding any ground to age. That tomorrow she spoke of was her 85th birthday.
I was intrigued by her thinking and I ended up having breakfast with her on Tuesdays for the next 8 years. Kinda like Tuesdays with Morri\e. I may not have grown wise over the years from those encounters, but I was certainly entertained.
The trio is down to one.
We also lost this young lady

I knew I should have went and seen them on their tour earlier this year when they came through. Damn it that sucks rip
Right as ZZ Top blew up in the late '70s, Beard went into rehab. He later joked that his first big paycheck, $72K, went entirely to heroin and coke.
When people asked Dusty what they’d do with Frank in rehab, he said: nothing. He’s our guy. We’ll wait for him. The band took a three-year hiatus so Beard could get sober. Did I mention that this happened at the height of their breakthru, w/no guarantee that this wouldn’t be their one chance to cash in?
Absolutely amazing.
That stretch is also when ZZ Top reinvented itself w/the beards and sunglasses image, which led straight into Eliminator and MTV. Beard returned and stayed sober from 1984 on, and they played together another 40+ years.
Awesome stuff. Thanks for posting.
Billy Gibbons is the most underrated guitar player ever. IMO
Damn look at you. You know your stuff. Kudos
I love music. Especially the 60’s through the early 80’s
What really knocked me out was her cheap sunglasses
.
I got a girl she lives on the hill. She won’t do it but her sister will.
Thats pretty sick same as I. Grew up with 60s to the 90s.
Ironic that of the three band members, his last name is Beard?
Frickin sweet. Thanks.
He was like the American Charlie Watts. Not wild and outlandish. Always cool, with impeccable timing, back beats, and fills.
Saw them a few years ago at the mount pleasant casino lawn thing with Willie Nelson and John fogerty.
They slayed even at their advanced age.
Ah shit, that sucks. RIP Frank. At least I got to see him with ZZ Top a few years ago. Dusty was already gone by then. The Reverend Willy G is the last man standing from that legendary trio.
really liked her all these years, never heard how she died.
They really understood how to market their videos on MTV. This was their first video played on MTV, May 21, 1983.
ZZ Top did MTV better than anyone. Eliminator was most people’s first introduction to ZZ Top. It was the 1st Album ever purchased for a lot of my friends. They had fun with it and that’s why it worked and didn’t turn off their longtime fan base. And I started appreciating the female Leg. ![]()
Tres Hombres is one of the greatest Albums of all time.
