“I am so much more happy at right guard,” Glasgow told the Free Press on Sunday, July 20, after the Lions’ first practice of training camp. “I was trying to be a good guy about (switching positions last year). I mean, you bring in somebody that just played right guard for 12 years, you kind of got to smile about it. … But things are going good. I’m happy to be playing right guard.”

Glasgow said he told the Lions before signing his three-year deal in March of 2024 he did not want to change positions.
“I’m like, ‘I’m re-signing with the intention on playing right guard,’” he said. “That’s my preference. Like, I really want to play right guard over left guard. He’s like, ‘But would you (play left guard) if we needed you to?” And I’m like, ‘Well, I guess I would. I guess.’ But I kept reemphasizing, ‘But I would really rather not.’ And then that ended up happening. It was interesting. It was a good learning experience, but I’m happy that I don’t have to do it again.”

Glasgow said he spent time this offseason practicing at center in case the Lions need him to move positions this fall, but for now coaches have indicated he won’t be taking center snaps in practice.
Ratledge has made a positive first impression — “Tate’s pretty smart,” Glasgow said — and Glasgow said he doesn’t expect the line to skip a beat with Ratledge and second-year guard Christian Mahogany likely stepping into starting jobs.
“I think Christian’s a good player,” Glasgow said. “I think Tate will pick things up quick. I think a lot of it comes down to how we communicate between ourselves. I think that when you’re with guys who are older, especially guys like Frank, he picks up a lot of slack on being able to see things on both sides of (center). So it’s going to take more from me and Penei (Sewell) and Christian and Taylor (Decker) to make sure that what we see gets relayed to Tat
Interesting quote. I’ll admit I thought it might be an open competition for center. But it appears GG is definitely starting at RG. And we are starting a rookie center day 1. Sure hope Tate is ready to rock!
It seems like GG was much better at the beginning of the season. As the season wore on,he appeared to lose a little. May have been his age, or the wear and tear of the season.or he’s just not that good anymore. ,
He was pretty solid at right guard in 2023. He saved us that season cause Big V lasted only about 2 games before getting hurt again and GG started almost every game. Hopefully moving back to his preferred and comfortable position helps. He is getting old though. This is most likely his last season I think.
